My supervisor dropped me like a rock in the ranking this year without giving me any heads up. Had me relocate to a new group in a new city. Now I have to stay for 12 months with no possibility of a meaningful raise or repay the relocation costs.

I sure do see and hear about people being dropped from the top to the bottom more often than I hear about people going from the bottom to the top.
Supervisors that are unable to communicate with their team should get PIPd instead of the team members. Especially PIP Supervisors that are unable to form an intelligent sentence about the scope the team performs.
Yup, at some points in your career, you might think you're invincible, but the system is fickle and can turn on you in an instant. Had this happen to me. Left the company and am happier again now.
I have bald Indian guy in my group, all he does when joins the meeting is saying the same phrase “Good job guys, I totally agree with you”. Thats the prime example of the brown noser I’ve seen lately

EM getting rid of the competent productive worker and keeping the loser that takes credit for the work of others, even though he does not understand their work and cannot form a sentence describing their work.
Also he needs to end the denial and shave that balding head that is the source of so many jokes on many continents.
@OP Why are you still there? No employer looking to keep you would have done this. You should be actively looking for another job.
The forced move was probably an attempt to get you to quit.
If you were never NSI or NI for decades, then you can and will be blindsided. Integrity and performance does not matter. You can drop from OWD to NSI in 12 months. Historically, it would take three years to drop from the top 1/3rd, to the mid 1/3rd, to the bottom 1/3rd and then NSI. In 2025 and beyond, it only takes 12 months.

Now I am stuck in a podunk non-Houston location. It would have been much easier to quit and find a new job in Houston. Plus my partner quit their job to move with me and hasn’t found a new job yet. I cannot believe they would do this to me.
