Thread regarding SAP layoffs

SAP is never going to change

This place has been toxic for so long that the bullying is just baked into the culture now. Same people, same nonsense, year after year.

The level of incompetence and corruption in ECS is simply supreme and absurd. L4s seem to be specifically hired with little to zero understanding of the actual work (prerequisite to have a very low IQ), only to end up functioning as assistants to their L3s and above, while effectively abandoning their own jobs and direct reports.

TSMs have now become a complete shi*t hole where the rest of the ECS organization dumps whatever work, problems, and responsibilities they don't want to deal with. Instead of being empowered to focus on their actual responsibilities, they are increasingly treated as a dumping ground for everyone else's failures and poor decisions.

@e6 Unfortunately, this is normal. People will steal your ideas and showcase them as their own. People will be promoted simply for diversity when they’re highly incompetent. People will get promoted just because they’re in the same location as an executive and can su-k up to them.

@nq i reckon you compare only with other software companies. There are plenty of better run companies with much stronger corporate culture and systems in place. SAP might be getting benefit of paying well which curtains all of the downside.

@t7 Most of the supervisory board concedes that if we give more money to the executive board, they will be nicer to employees. But human greed has no limi.

@nw why would the current executive board care about that? They are all getting millions in bonuses and their term ends before any repercussions. The real culprits here are the supervisory board who support these bad actors and their decisions wholeheartedly. They are elected by the employees and are doing what most employees want.

@jz The thing is that its counterproductive. If you replace all the workers then there is nobody to buy your stuff.

@ge Q.) Is this just the corporate world or an SAP thing??
A.) It’s the dystopian corporate world run by soulless knuckle-dragging cretins.

The underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.

If AGI works, people will be replaced with AI and lose their jobs. If the AI bo-m ends, we will enter recession and people will lose their jobs. Executives will make a lot of money either way. And no one will blame them because employees are too busy fighting each other due to culture wars and class wars and racism and what not.

@ge the combination of performance management and token spending considered as good performance makes it even worse IMHO. Many colleagues I know who are great at their jobs are now less concerned with work and more concerned with spending AI tokens. Performance Management has made it easier to promote friends and family. What SAP needs is repercussions against favoritism for managers that indulge in that. HR needs to track and stop fast track of employees who get 10% salary increments several years in a row.

It’s mentally draining that’s for sure. The new performance management has just made the team culture worse. A constant cycle of competition and “look what I did, look!!” Is this just the corporate world or an SAP thing??

We now also have to tiptoe around diversity candidates. There's a Syrian refugee in our area and we are all told to be nice to him because he's fastracked to be promoted as high up as possible. So we include him in all important topics and he takes the credit for everything. SAP is a strange place to be nowadays. Germans are told to forget promotions because refugees are priority zero.

The more projects I join the more politics I come across.. I've driven many projects only for colleagues in different regions to get a promotion/recognition for it... is this normal SAP behaviour? Never seen this with previous employer.. it seems to be a lot of who you know instead of WHAT you and know and its ironic our bonus is determined by the WHAT evaluation!

Create (another) dashboard on how you’re feeling and present it to your micro-manager. They can reassure you that you’re not doing enough and recommend internal wellbeing courses.

If those clash with your three meetings about the other meetings, don’t worry — just use AI to summarise them all. You won’t get time to read the summaries, but the meetings were pointless anyway.

Then, when your official workday ends, don’t waste the evening worrying about everything you didn’t get done. Just log back on and ease the anxiety. Then wake up and start all over again.

They even bully the customers. They have one saving grace, it’s costly to replace a mature sap footprint..
