I currently work in retention, and our job is mostly on the phone conducting outreach to members, my VSP apparently is not 9/4/2026, and instead it’a in 2027. I didn’t think my job was that important that they needed me to stay until next year? Who/what determines your VSP date? I am curious because I genuinely suspect my sup and director had a say in this.

It was your VP, they decided the dates of when the people under them could leave.
@ad what is the law firm name ?
Someone in your people leader chain made the decision. Likely at the director or VP level. Your sup/mgr might have been consulted, but that really just depends on your VP. But my guess would be likely not. I'm a VP in a subsidiary.
Your role my not seem critical, but if everyone in your dept. took VSP, they probably spread out the end dates just to manage the turnover / hiring / training.
That's weird. Mine includes a year (2027)
@OP I would definitely get a lawyer. There is one in Texas who has handled lawsuits by employees against Centene and won.
I noticed the VSP date does not include the year. Seems very shady and cold hearted of them. I did not notice anyone mention a 9/4/27 departure date. It will be exhausting having to stay that long with heartless sups and managers. If they start getting to a point where your life is unbearable then get FMLA to protect you at least a little bit. Good luck and keep us posted.
Your leadership set the date within HR schedule roll off dates.. -VP worked with your direct management and HR to align on date.
