I was laid off at the start of the year, but managed to find a new job quickly. My team was dysfunctional to put it mildly, with no support and a manipulative culture. After 6 months, a friend tells me they replaced me with someone younger and cheaper, who lasted three full weeks before quitting under the same strain. Can't say I didn't laugh and feel somewhat vindicated.

Are you older than 35-40? Because that's the age where they phase you out it seems at every tech company.

It's so sad to witness the sacrifice of functioning, if not well functioning, teams to the great profitability god. Time dilation let's you witness the tragedy in slow motion while you feel helpless because you are powerless in the face of the almighty (dollar). You know, though, that these short-sighted decisions are the path to ruin and not the revival. Your gut wrenches with pains of waste and futility but your survival instinct prevails and you insulate yourself in a soft cocoon of IDGAF. Release and revelry come when watching the destruction from afar, distanced by the separation, time, and space. Revel in it.
