Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

9/24 rumor must be true

Just saw layoff codes via IT back in mid August and then multiple the last couple days. So the 30 to 45 day time frame was set into motion again like the last couple big layoffs going back to November 2025 is in play. I know Senior Leadership is meeting in-person this week. So timing for everything makes sense, Sr. Leaders are mapping out lists and numbers based on HR cuts this week. This gives them an overview of the current and future state, also allows for possible substitutions if they want to keep someone. Another red flag was an email saying don't talk outside VZ, this makes it obvious something is coming soon.

So N&T numbers and individuals (band 6, 7,…) will be notified September 24?

This is AD, SD round or engineer level(6v)?

@fw bring back certs as requirements for roles. you hit the nail on the head. under qualified people there and all over. accepting people with international certs that are not equivalent in the US is a big problem. or who have degrees from sh*thole countries

some current employee under the current CISO organization stated they had open head count amongst the stream of layoffs. Backfills for the positions they eliminated in November 2025 forward. The people that were let in November 2025 were told 'thank you for attending this call, your position has been eliminated. Not you as a person but your role due to restructuring and alignment within the organization. So this current associate director stated differently, again the restructuring should have addressed Senior Directors making bad cyber security investments which cost Verizon millions upon million of dollars estimated at around 4 million yearly multiplied by three years. This group based on their current account should NOT have 3 Associate Directors to account less than 18 people, Two out of three are not technical, the group spends more money and has failed to operationalize any of what it supposedly operates. Has yet to finish one project year over year

@e6 a true verizon leader. many similar examples across the company

looking for a good employer in the future? scout out linkedin and see if the leaders have quality linkedin’s or if their feed is filled with obese-themed proms

I am praying they outsource my job overseas to take me out of my misery. A severance package would alleviate the mental anguish from this current nightmare.

This would align to the 1/1/2027 new ORG structure.

finally Senior Directors that were hired under questionable senior leadership made horrific security decisions, two years of misdirection, pi-s poor communications with skip level resources. One Senior Director couldn't be bothered to be on a call with a vendor for 2 minutes but said oops have another meeting. Spent thousands of dollars paying for verizon employee dinners at a conference, when each employee had a daily stipend. Telcos are not Banks, making promises to vendors, then informing engineers the vendor and Verizon has excellent project management resources which neither do. how was this senior director never held accountable, this is just one example and that style leadership was passed down Directors as well. Open Door policy was stated but was 'narratively controlled'

@a2 not sure, the IT codes only indicate movements to trigger in workday and backend systems. So yes a layoff is happening, but not sure on departments. I would say if you SDs, VP, or higher are in a face to face this week or last week that would probably be the biggest clue.
