10/8 Layoffs Date Change

Managing Director told us that previously discussed date of 10/8 might change because of “leakers”. They may be pushing back to later in month or November, but want to do it before Thanksgiving to avoid 1/1 Readiness impact. As if losing people won’t make 1/1 harder.

Crazy. Is this the Pentagon, where leakers will punished and beatings will continue until morale improves?

Also there seem to be no answers about strategy and goals for end of year, early next year or beyond, except for vague Lead to One support.

My gut tells me Evanko went in without a plan and doesn’t know WTF to do now. We will just tell everyone our products are now shipping through the open Strait of Hormuz. Cigna won the war!!!

@1dy no, it's gone I don't see it anymore on Iris.

@nh are these new postings onshore and a mirror of the roles that were JE'd? If so, they have a legal case. JE'S are "supposed " to be eliminated jobs...not terminations. Hmmmm

@1dw there is a calendar which notes layoff dates. It’s only available to sr managers and above I think

People keep mentioning Iris, what was shown in Iris? Where can we see it?

Any term date after Sept 30 gets bonus.
It may or may not be prorated.

If the notification date is 9/10 and the final day is 10/8, will a person who was let go still qualify for the partial bonus (last day is after the 10/1 cutoff date) ?

@nh That is really lousy of them. Makes you wonder if just prior to the end of the third month of every quarter if they lay people off just to make the company appear more profitable, seeing as how

And then, in this case, after October 1st, they can hire the replacements. But they can advertise the roles now, but just not hire after October 1st.

But to be honest, I really do not know if that is what is going on here.

Meanwhile there are job postings externally for individual contributors with 5 yrs exp starting at $110K in departments where JE's have happened, when I know for a fact the people on those teams with the most experience and tenure are making less than 6 figures and in some cases half of $110K.

I think people are saying 9/10 because some states have longer notification periods, and I don’t think Cigna wants to lay off people too close to the holidays or near 1/1. But it’s Cigna after all. They could lay you off any day

@fp I think that’s what people mean. 9/10 notification and 10/8 as last day. That’s 30 days for notification period.

@fc Why are people suggesting a September date? I know 10/8 has been floating around for a while, but September seems to have popped up and I don’t get why. During the major layoffs earlier this year, the “leaked” dates were the days the JEs were communicated, not the day that people were officially removed from the system

@c1 Our team is losing people who were soft notified back in February on 9/17 but I have been feeling there will be another September layoff. I hope I’m wrong ought.

Here’s how it works: budgets for the following year are often finalized too late, which leaves everyone else scrambling to put together a roadmap or plan for the upcoming year. That plan then has to go through leadership for approval and buy-in.

Because of these delays, people often don’t get a clear picture of what the following year will look like until very late in the year or sometimes not until late January.

That’s when people start connecting the dots and realizing that layoffs may be coming, as well as getting a sense of how widespread they could be.

@dz Agree. The executives at these health insurance corporations (e.g., Elevance, Cigna, Humana, United, Centene) would all at Christmas time rip Tiny Tim’s crutch out of his hands and use it for firewood in the fireplace of their rich privileged mansions.

@c1 you are delusional if you think there won't be layoffs near a holiday. That is historically what they do EVERY year - Thanksgiving in particular. Been here a long time and have seen some things so don't kid yourself into thinking they give a rats a$$ about JE'ing near a holiday.

@bt Actually stock price always sky rockets on layoff days. I guess it is some sick way these rich shareholders choose to gratify themselves. Somehow it excites and turns them on when they think of many people losing their livelihoods and makes them want to celebrate by buying lots of stock in that company. I know, SICK!

@OP Sorry. Not buying it. There is no way they are doing layoffs anywhere near a major holiday like Thanksgiving or Christmas. I believe it's going to happen next week 9/10 with last day on 10/8.

I'm sure it has more to do with the stock price and not wanting it to drop before they get a cash grab (due to bad press), wonder when more shares vest for them.... Follow the money.

@aw I don’t see this on the calendar. Maybe it’s just layoffs for the OP’s org. It’s probably a psyop from their MD or VP thinking the directors and managers will tell their staff that no there are no layoffs on 10/8. But if anyone pays attention, they should realize by now that layoffs are gonna happen every spring and fall and no one in the USA is safe.

@ar Yeah, they could get away with taking care of someone and bury things and go about business like nothing happened. DIFFERENT RULES for them than what a civilized society expects.

They don’t give a sh-t about someone leaking a potential lay off date.

Every layoff has been leaked ahead of time. The next one will be leaked too if they push it back
