@w3 I agree and I feel bad for you guys who is going through this. I’m currently in an interview panel and I’ve interviewed around 6-8 Indian candidates for a security position. None of them can answer an intermediate technical question.
H1b is def misused. I’ve seen data analysts and business analysts getting H1b, like a high school drop out can figure out that work. I’m Indian and if I’m being honest, and I ever am in a manager position , I’ll never hire an Indian unless they’re FAANG or exceptionally skilled. Even for a contract role. The amount of burden they add to the team is just not fair for the rest. And they leave a bad rep for rest of genuine folks
@e2 Maybe you are the exception. And it does happen very rarely.
However, a lot of us have worked on multiple projects at multiple companies and can tell you that the "specialized skills" of most H1Bs in IT that we have come across are absolutely not specialized at all. Like, zero. Some of us literally have former coworkers who were laid off and have those skills and still get passed over. The majority of your countrymen are lying about having the skills. That's our entire point. The exceptions to that prove that the general rule is true.
SQL and rendering a web page, for example, is pretty much table stakes for any SE job in the industry. That is not specialized. Yet, I see people come in on visa to just do that bread and butter work all the time (and a lot of them very poorly).

@bw I have been to few big cities in USA too. Look at skid row with all homeless, St. Louis downtown, Detroit downtown, deep ellum in Dallas and those zombie blocks in Seattle. If you’re a brave person, go walk around there downtown and report it back here.
Most of the Indian cities are very livable and affordable. You only see the small piece of dirty ones who most of educated Indians avoid going there. It’s like me asking, go clean skid row, and j know you’ll never be able to … it’s the same way.
My manager who was ex military interviewed 18 locals and hired me and gave me h1b job. Now is he against USA? He’s the most republican person I’ve met. Only thing is, at work he needed a specific skillset that company and his team demanded, and that’s where I fit in. You people have no brains to understand this simple logic and keep crying over h1bs… you’re getting replaced coz others are better, it’s that simple. This might all sound so new to you and probably went right over your head so don’t worry, just keep grinding until the laid off h1b take those job back home with em.

There is no advantage of being a citizen. Get sc--wed by both parties. Both parties are slave of multinationals and have no obligations towards Americans. Trump has been acting like he cares with all BS about visa fees etc but had no spine to stand up to CEOs and warn them if they layoff citizens versus H1bs. He is happily enjoying his billions he makes controlling the stock market. He doesnt care.

So my point stands. Go home and clean up your home and actually make it livable there. Stop having children and overpopulating and maybe even out your economy so that you all aren't competing for the bottom ruppee on every job.

Contact your representative and demand a ban on all H1Bs. Time to put Americans first.
Usually H1 and L1 RSU are about 3X compared to regular, more if you are from specific country. Voting is the only option, it could take years but have to do this for future generation. Change takes time, but we can do this, 1 step at a time.
We need grassroot movement to get this over the line. Remember how to vote on mid terms, H1 and L1 getting over the moon salaries and refreshers whereas rest are struggling to make ends meet.
