How is everyone feeling? I’m petrified but also ready to end this fear of something always lurking around the corner. I know there will be more layoffs to come, that’s a definite, and at least we won’t worry on that anymore but I have so much more to worry about also. @OP I don't know what to feel. Initially, I was shocked because my PL said it would be another team in our department that would be impacted. It turned out to be my team and me. I am also relieved. Nothing is streamlined because people don't like change. As a result, there's a lot of redundancy. I need to be on a team that welcomes change in their actions, not just their words. Back to the topic here, I don't think the RIF will hit me until I no longer have a company laptop. I haven't been with the organization long, so maybe that's why I'm numb. If it had happened with my former employer, I'd be devastated (I'm glad to have left there on good terms with a good network of contacts). At some point, I'll need to sit and process this layoff. For now, I purposely plan fun things to look forward to each week that have nothing to do with work. Those things are all free (e.g., museums). I learned a long time ago not to tie my career to my identity, and the RIF forces me to re-evaluate what I want for my future.
Feeling scared and uncertain about the future in one way, but also relieved knowing I will no longer have to be in a toxic environment. I’m ready to move forward and focus on what’s next.
So ready! 5pm Friday can’t come soon enough. Truly feel for those remaining due to all the unknowns. Wish everyone the best!
