Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

for those accepting the VSP are you doing cobra insurance or looking at marketplace?

seems like we have to wait to get a COBRA packet in the mail from Centene before electing.. so I'm like is there a gap in care??? and wondering if we still qualify for marketplace if we do cobra for the 3 months.

@an Centene will subsidize the amount that they currently pay towards your premium. Whatever you pay now through payroll deduction for your health insurance premiums is what you will need to pay during the VSP coverage period. Hope that helps.

How much will they subsidize? I was told that your current insurance will carry over while no longer an employee due to vsp but I have no idea what I would be paying monthly? I hope the pay 90% of the cost.

You have 60 days to sign up for COBRA and the effective date should be backdated to when you lost coverage, so there shouldn’t be a gap. Subsidized COBRA is much better coverage than Marketplace, but unsubsidized COBRA is extremely expensive. I am starting with the subsidized COBRA and will change to Marketplace coverage when that ends.

Marketplace is a horrible product from a consumer standpoint. High cost, low benefits. That is why unsubsidized plans are going under. Unless you are desperate, you are better off with nothing.
