@eh Empathy isn’t to “satiate feelings,” it’s to understand others’ experiences. People are at the core of every business. Business is nonexistent without people. Therefore, empathy is a core requirement for operating a business. If you don’t operate with an understanding of people, then you aren’t running an efficient and effective company, and you don’t actually have what it takes to maximize shareholder value.
@bt I tried this, but the staffing agencies in my area have switched to AI onboarding phone screenings and I am hard of hearing. Every time I ask for a disability accommodation for either captions or written questions, it tells me no and tries to bulldoze through me to the next questions.
There wouldn't be any hard feelings, so long as they pay the severance without making up fake terms for cause and stop lying about what's happening and why. Since they refuse to do either, here we are.

It's a frickin business, plain and simple. There is no guarantee of employment. They need to cut the bloat. They can can you or you can them at any time. No hard feelings.
Once you get through your first layoff you will understand that. Apparently, you haven't yet.
@OP I'm in the same boat as you, laid off last quarter, been applying for jobs that are a lower salary than what I was getting paid and have only gotten an interview for an entry level position...
started looking the day i was let go this past January. 400ish applications later I accepted an offer mid May, actually had two offers. there were weeks where it felt hopeless but then the next week I'd get a couple of screening. one of my offers was in banking the other was in a different industry altogether which is the one I took. slightly less pay then what I made at Wells but had a ton of upside. Been with my new company a couple months now and am loving it. it is nice to no longer be under a microscope.
@af what kind of position are you searching for? FA? CA? Working for a fund company? What did you do here? CA?
The lack of empathy for our colleagues who were tossed aside by an uncaring company is stunning. 80,000 of us have been let go since 2020 and the OP is saying the current job market is very difficult to navigate to find similar work. Be thankful it's not you, no need to be so nasty.

If you haven’t already, consider Staffing Agencies in your area. If there is a certain company you are looking at, network to determine if they use staffing agencies. This is my experience, I submitted my application one evening and I had a call back the next day. Then an interview with an offer letter. Many times, if they like your work, you can get hired on permanently. In the mean time take relevant courses to show what you have been doing in the meantime. The job market is a real challenge.

I have my Series 7/66 laid off from PCG recently and getting initial interviews from just starting a week or 2 ago.
@OP are you able to put context around this? As is it’s a pretty meaningless statement. Trying to stay in the financial sector only or looking across all? In a financial only position or ambiguous one like Project Management or Technology? Only willing to accept remote or looking at onsite as well? Etc etc etc.
Someone looking for that fat cherry position working from home at top end of the pay scale I would expect it to take a while and I wouldn’t consider that “brutal”. I see plenty of hiring movement out there.
