Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Corporate Zombies in Business Casual

I’ve never seen this many heartless creatures concentrated in one workplace. Compassion? Don’t make me laugh. They recite corporate buzzwords like malfunctioning robots ,repeating “values” and “culture” they clearly don’t understand. And the managers… delivering the same recycled ice‑breaker lines like they’re reading from a script written in 1998. “It’s nice seeing your smiling face again.” Really? Try actually looking at people’s faces before you sp-t out that nonsense.
And for the love of basic honesty, stop putting words like culture, team, or mentorship anywhere near the name ExxonMobil. Those words don’t belong in the same galaxy.

@az I’m amazed at how many people at EM can’t hold a normal conversation unless it involves selling themselves. It’s incredibly shallow. God forbid they read a book or try expanding their vocabulary.

“We are ExxonMobil,” “Compete to win,” “Take initiative,” and of course the legendary “It’s not just what you did, it’s how you did it,” “why‑what‑how” and 360‑degree feedback .......

Got it...It's lunch break and here they come, uninvited, lecturing everyone about their fantasy résumé like anyone asked. But they’re out here delivering a TED Talk about their imaginary “impact.” These people don’t advocate for themselves; they audition for roles in a movie that doesn’t exist.

@ay Showing even a sign of humanity is basically volunteering to be eliminated. Every decent, helpful, genuinely caring person I’ve seen either walked out in exhaustion or got quietly shoved out the door. EM treats compassion like a defect, something to be purged so the machine keeps running.

@az My divorced manager doesn’t even talk to his own kid. They’re wired differently, and honestly, when they see someone with a happy, normal family, it bothers them.

This is what happens when you have a company ran by engineers.

Sense of humor… What’s that?

Asking about their family… don’t care.

A bunch of acronyms… let talk!

I find that when I get excited about projects or congratulate others for their accomplishments it's like it confuses the XOM brain. Lots of coworkers can't process being genuine or having real interest or enthusiasm.

Robot City. Have you ever met a manager there who showed actual compassion? Of course not , if they had a functioning human emotion, they wouldn’t survive long enough to climb that management ladder. Compassion is basically a disqualifier.
