I quit five years ago and received and offer recently. I thought coming back to USAA would feel familiar in a good way. Instead, I walked into a building full of hopeless faces, a toxic atmosphere, and my first meeting was a layoff discussion. People I had worked with before were gone. The place I remembered didn't exist anymore. I handed in my resignation before my second month was up.

The culture changed when they started bringing in management from big banks and consulting firms who brought that mindset with them. It ruined the culture and created the toxicity that prevails now. The mission is no longer the mission but an empty slogan.
Things are set up so people don't stick around long. I've never worked at a company with such severe attention problems. Always running in circles, and waiting for the next reorg.
You are one of many that has gone through this trap. I think so many of us struggle with how much better USAA could be and should be and want to believe it will change. I left for good a while back and couldn't be happier. I do sometimes come back and check here to see what is happening...from the reports I hear, same old same old.
Were you in middle managment? What kind of role? Just curious. Do not list specifics, of course.
