Thread regarding Optum layoffs

HouseCalls Question

Question for HouseCalls APCs — how’s everyone’s schedule looking for August and September? Curious if others are noticing a pattern of unusually few visits scheduled starting mid-August onward.

@w5 well now they want APCs to schedule members for their visit for NEXT year…because it’s supposedly benefits the member and the APC. More like they need less schedulers if APCs are doing all the work..

Scheduling is slow to fill, doesn’t fill way out but it does fill. With so many layoffs I wonder if they have laid off the scheduling people too so they aren’t staffed enough to fill a schedule up 6 weeks out? They’ve been flexing people to VVV every year since Covid started as areas start to burn down. This isn’t new or unusual.

Lots of jobs still posted nationwide so it seems like we’re good for the rest of the year. No significant Medicare changes for next year so depends on membership of course. They lost so many members to competitors this year I expect a huge marketing push for open enrollment. Gotta keep the shareholders happy.

Hardly anyone booked for September.
I would be making sure your metrics are stellar.
Would love love love to get another job---but returning to a 9-5 office job also seems horrible.

Schedule has been slow to fill all year. I have been here over 5 years and this has been the first like this.

Depends on your area and if you had PTO. Seeing a full schedule until Aug 27 then scattered until Sept 18. I would say clues are being given about membership decline. Also about VVV being used for NPs that the numbers don’t support them in their area.

Personally feel if we use our business hat instead of clinical we have to see more RIF coming but because the business needs are not communicated as clearly from clinical leadership we are left to guess.
