Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is there a safe space from the AI slop at Ford?

Every day it's the same slop. "We have to use AI in everything we do". Write code? Get AI to do it! Review the code? AI! Write an email or post a message in Teams? Better use AI for it (the ems and the emoji use always give it away; "it's not just x - it's y")! Every post, every message, AI slop images, AI slop text, literally inescapable. I feel like the cult mentality around it is just eating away at people's brains, it's a twilight zone episode. I get we have to copy what every software company does, but isn't there someone near the top seeing the massive bubble about to burst, the cost of token consumption, and the general brain drain that comes from offloading every single task to an agent or a chat bot?

@vg

Getting called on your time off is a sure sign of an extremely unhealthy organization that will end up failing.

@xk+1ky7yts20 Exactly Ford serially wastes billions of dollars on one flopped initiative after another. GDIA, EVs, Battery plants etc. Well run companies start small, test the waters and grow as the technology proves itself. But that isn’t Ford’s strong suit. Ford’s strong suit is building bureaucracy and creating the need for more and more leadership positions. Ergo the continual bulk and trim. Jeez if all the make work tasks and non-value add tasks were eliminated Ford would need 80% fewer white collar workers. But that wouldn’t be popular with leadership team as they and their friends and family would be out of a job.

Ford will abandon AI after spending billions on in house technology that doesn't work. Sometimes big bets don't pay off when it's not your strong suit. It would be easier to automate all of the UAW jobs. Ford IT should be outsourced, no excuse to have that many IT people at an auto manufacturer. Stick to design and manufacturing - that's the core business. Outsource the tech to google or apple and call it a day.

You're training the AI for FORD.

What I find hilarious is the use of AI to “solve” problems. The AI tool ingested Ford documentation that was faulty and presents the faulty solutions to the tool user and its SSDD.

One example: there are some IT teams that intentionally milk overtime by setting systems up to have an “error” that requires a IT person to be called to resolve the “error”. The IT person essentially does nothing, but in the support ticket writes up a long winded complicated resolution that required hours of their time. They then bill OT for this fake resolution time. These are years long running scam for these individuals to milk OT.

I first ran into these scams as a new hire. I was sick and tired of getting called on my time off, so I permanently fixed all the “errors”, and thoroughly documented and published the fixes. Well for a month there were zero errors. Then I went on vacation. When I returned all the “errors” were occurring again. And to top it off the scammers were claiming I had intentionally hosed things up before leaving on vacation. I printed off all the proof that the scammers had intentionally introduced the errors and took it to my LL6 and LL5. The LL5 told me I was a trouble maker and transferred me to another area. The scammers are still scamming to this day.

Some people want to do what is right for the company, but a larger contingent are just milking the company. AI tools aren’t smart enough to know which type of person wrote the documentation that it is learning from. And well Ford managers and directors are just milking the system.

Ford management deserves every bit of AI slop they get. Push the tools, fire the people (then beg them to come back because you sc--wed up and got a woody for the AI tools too early before you trained it on the old guard knowledge). I hope they bent Ford management over on consulting fees and salary. These mistakes should hurt more, and a lot more then it probably did. I'm taking feeling it on the balance sheets for the next two years hurt. Fools will be fools.

too bad AI does not replace senior management. The BOD and JF have clearly demonstrated they do not know what they are doing.

Stop crying because the world changed.
Every major shift faced pushback, then people accepted.
Learning how to effectively prompt, leverage AI agents, and streamline workflows is simply the modern standard.

@OP No, AI is our competitive advantage, no other company in the world has it. I used to do small but effective presentations, now I can put tougher hundreds of slides of complete drivel that look great - that is efficiency.
