Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Anyone here take a paycut to transfer internally to a team you wanted to join?

How significant was it? Looking at a 25k paycut, not sure if Im crazy or not. Going from 95k to 70k but for a team I would prefer.

That's hilarious....you must be rich...why are you even working?

don’t do it. Remember a pay cut also affects your bonus and it also affects your retirement plan contribution amount so a $25,000 pay cut will be more like taking a $40,000 pay cut in the end when you consider total compensation.

$25k. Only if you are married and your spouse makes like 250k then sure.

I wouldn't take a pay cut especially here. Heck I'd sooner leave the firm for a role making the same salary or more than take a paycut.

HR would be mo--ns if they offer you 70k knowing you make 95k. Anything less than 90k offer from them is pathetic. I would fight well rather negotiate to get a salary match at the bare minimum.

Nope. Not one cent of a paycut in probably 7 transfers for me.

Most of mine were pay increases one recent one was a 1k increase along with one in my early career being the exact same salary but I had to get out of that toxic team with boring work and a micromanager so t was worth it.

Never ever take a pay cut. Especially that much money.

Heck no. That’s way too much of a pay cut. You would regret this immediately. I’m all for finding a better role and even for a pay cut, but it would take you years to get back financially to where you are.

It’s never advisable to take a pay cut for a new job, internally or externally, unless for extreme situations. Your purchasing power is already eroded due to lack of raise and 26% pay cut is absolutely ridiculous, especially for a company that will drop you at their convenience. Stick it out with the higher paying role; you’ll probably never recover finally as that’s the new anchor for any other raises/promotions/new outside roles.
