Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

This place has the most toxic culture. Everyone here seems to hate their job.

I have worked at several companies and so far this one is the worst. Pretty much everyone I work with seems to hate their job. Many people are very difficult to work with and have a very horrible energy and attitude which makes work unpleasant because they don’t want to do anything and are only here for a paycheck and feel stuck.

I guess I can’t even blame them cause I hate it here too. However it is draining when you’re constantly around people that hate their work and team and have a horrible attitude about doing their job. Management only cares about managing up and cant even bother to pretend to care about their team. We are all in a weird matrix environment where everyone is out for themselves while the managers only care about showing off and kissing up to the higher ups. So why am I here? Bad job market and I have bills to pay so I am here hating it too.

@cv funny though this has gone on for 23 quarters but not a single peep on the news or social media. Except on here. There is seriously something wrong for it to go on for so long.
Won't be anyone left.

Yep, and they want collaboration. With people who you don't work with, at a site you have to be at, and hate going to.
And then while stacking the org with their buddies from other banks, they discount any input empoyees may have and make their decisions in a vacuum and call it transparency.
I am in a job I did not apply for, never would apply for, and have not been trained for. Their promise of rite sizing the org (remember that) where they were to look at peoples skill sets and make sure they were in the correct roles? That was a bold faced lie.
Managing up is all they know how to do. Because it is all that is expected of them. C- suite asks managers to jump and in addition of asking how high, they ask if they can polish the candelabra as well.

23 quarters straight of headcount reductions with no end in sight will do that to a company, yes i think even someone with Mr Rogers level positivity would become jaded and cynical in an environment like this.

You put good performers in a bad system, the system will win every time.

I recently left and now am at a normal company. It’s no paradise but the atmosphere in the office is characterized by normal adult interactions and everyone is happy and gets along. The changes of the past few years at WF have been terrible, but gradual enough that when you’re removed from it it’s still very jarring to see how things are outside the pot you’ve slowly been boiling in. And yes, it used to be a happy place—a storied, remarkable organization that treated employees as assets, not nuisance expenses.

I love that all the pretend bs about mental health happens during the annual survey. Gaslighting much?

Agree with the comments how bad it is. The worst part is how little hope most of us have that it will change. Layoffs hitting our colleagues every 2 weeks and the CEO gleefully celebrating "23 quarters of headcount reduction." In the midst of all this is Well Life gaslighting, GES charades, and the ironically named Employee Appreciation Week. Come get your donut and shut up until we decide to let you go.

My boss hates me. So lay me off today and I'll laugh all the way to a new job after 60 days, and pocket the severance. It is after all an official Tuesday after payday. $$$

Horrendous work environment. And they want people to fill out some fu--ing survey so they can lie about the results.

@as and re-orgs, job title renaming, and when they move people around-they pull you back because no one knows the knowledge you do, so you become a split resource. Executives make decisions on a whim, you get a big project, someone above stops it because they didn’t think it through and you end up back tracking all that work. It’s really hard to know what success looks like in all this.

Do you know why most employees hate their jobs (side from the constant fear of being laid-off)? How many people are actually working in a role they applied for? Everyone I know has been moved around several times over the years in a sadistic game of chess.

When is leadership going to get the memo that they need us more than we need them? Feels like they're never going to get it.

Morale being in the tank is a feature, not a bug. We are at the point of no return for company culture. They just want people to quit.

I can’t believe I used to actually like working here. But 2025-2026 have been the worst I’ve seen it. It doesn’t help that they are bringing in leaders from other banks that are absolutely clueless. They are injecting bad decisions into an already stressful environment. And now because of stacked ranking I’m seeing formerly helpful coworkers becoming nasty. Can’t blame em though. Every one is trying to make others look bad to save their own jobs. Get ready for actively sabotaging coworkers.

Perfectly said. First role in banking and I wonder if it’s all banking institutions or just Wells that is this toxic. Needless to say, I am not searching for roles in banking ever again. I use downtime (since executives can’t get their act together and my team is left waiting to do our jobs), to take develop you trainings for transferable skills for my next role, gives me hope to add to my resume. It’s getting really old but I refuse to let them win and just take any job to get out. Find ways to cope as best you can. Tone out the noise and build your resume.
