Thread regarding United Healthcare layoffs

It’s not fair I was laid off and others get to stay

I had 15 years with the company but my department decided to lay me off instead someone that’s been there 2 years. That’s not fair at all. I trained people, was always on time, worked weekends and overtime while being salaried, all that dedication and this is the thanks I get. I’m very hurt and disappointed in UHC. They have no loyalty at all! I will never work for them again good riddance!!

@11g It’s not about the salary. It’s about bullies protecting bullies and yes-people. “Change healthcare” is still here after the massive breach they brought. They’ve tanked two software products that were thriving before being moved underneath them. They layoff all the other groups that were not originally theirs, or they bully them out. Then after that they layoff employees and keep management that’s making mover 50% and even 100% more than employees.

@as You are proving their point. “did you give push-back?” 😆 Only an insecure, uneducated “leader” is bothered by supposed push-back. Viewing and analyzing all sides of an issue is what keeps a ship from sinking. This one is sinking quick.

@1g3 They did the same to me after 15 years. This is a recurring theme. What I will say is that since the severance packages are now bottom of the barrel, it’s not about tenure. It’s more about their bully managers eliminating those they perceive to be threats. Those who know more than them, have internal connections to get things done, I mean work related knowledge. I’m sorry it happened to you as well. However see it as protection from above. This is not a good company anymore.

Don’t worry, it’s a blessing in disguise. This ship is sinking.

I’ve been disappointed in them since I was on orientation, after finding out I got hired wwhile other people were being laid off.

If it took YOU getting laid off to feel disappointed in UHG, good. At least something touched your heart enough to reminded you that you’re a human just like the rest of us.

I was poached from another company due to reputation. Rebuilt the department after they fired everyone. Have 15+ years and they're CHOOSING to lose me. I've been playing this game my entire career. I get it from the business perspective. I've been used to train and provide oversight to junior team members (previously early career interns) and mentor others of my same grade salary to get them up to par with me. Its a joke at this point. Two bodies for one salary and a quarter of knowledge. Byeeeeeeee.

You are right, it’s NOT fair. It hurts and you are left in a vulnerable position. This happened to me and I really felt so lost for a long time. Focus on YOU and remember you are valuable to yourself, your family/friends and to another organization. Keep walking through the valley.

The criteria isn’t cutting the newest or lowest performing employees. The criteria isn’t cutting the most salary

@jh It was like they used you to train your replacement and you didn't know that was the plan.

@OP It was probably your salary that made them cut you over the newbie. I also think they target age groups while leaving a few older ones to not make it look suspicious. It will be ok I was laid off as well last year and I have a better job now. 🩷

@as right I corrected a lot of the new hires work all the time and I consider a new hire anyone with 2 years or less it comes down to salary in my opinion has nothing to do with performance I have never been on any write ups ever since I came and I always had excellent reviews from my manager. She said it was out of her control and the position was eliminated so it had nothing to do with my performance I was upset that they choose to eliminate my position and not the newer hires position

@OP you have again the boomer mindset that a person who is younger with “only 2 years” shouldn’t be let go. My question is were they performing better than you? Do they have more education on paper than you? Did you give pushback where they didn’t? Gotta think through these things. Seniority is not real anymore for a long time it hasn’t been.

@OP

Layoffs have never been about "fairness".

If you really worked a significant amount of unpaid overtime on a recurring basis, you proved to be not smart enough for further opportunities here.

Best of luck to you down the road.

@OP Most companies want younger workers no matter what the experience. My company does the same thing.

It's really really not fair to the American worker when entire department with an H1B visa holder also gets laid off, only to have the H1B get a job in another organization and the 30+ americans in the same department with many more years experience than the H1B GenZ. I'm going to report this to the US gov't.
