Layoffs on Wednesdays?

New to this board sorry if this has been addressed,

Is there a possibility for layoffs on Wednesdays? My manager changed our monthly 1:1 from Friday evening to tomorrow morning and is OOO today, can't even ask him. He's a new manager and I don't know him that well due to a reorg.

My manager seemed to get more avoidant over a period of time for some odd reason long before being laid off for location strategy.
I'm not really sure the reason for that either. To this day, they act like Im a complete stranger even though i worked with them for about a decade, odd.
When I asked them about it during that period of time, they said that it wasn't personal, but in order to protect themselves they had to limit contact. Something to the effect, classes and what if someone seen etc.

I should have known something was up when upon glancing at the teams chats list I was at their desk for a question and and i wasnt trying to read it, didnt bother to lock etc. They didnt act any different infact happy to see me. (specifically mine were hidden, and we just had communicated seconds ago to meet).

I sat there probably one ear out the other listening what they were saying but ultimately trying to figure out why exactly they are giving me this spill and chats thing I just seen. Of course you can't ask about that..everyone else looked like they were on there but me. I don't understand honestly.

I kind of reminds me of when in school, people will be friends with you for a long time and know you. Then someone fills their head with something they know good and well you aren't like, then delete snub you over what the other person said.

1:1 are such low-importance meetings they are often rescheduled at a moment's notice.

Once I was in a group where more were canceled by my manager (who scheduled them) than attended.

Over the past few years all cuts are the Tuesday after a paycheck.
