Anyone hear anything about returning to office? I hear rumors we are going to be mandated to become hybrid from fully remote work.

@p9 hopefully it will stay like that. I’ve learned to expect the worst from this company.
@c8 This don’t apply to everyone. There are full teams under 50 miles in Colorado that get to work from home full time while the office floor are empty.
@gc The culture is, I sit by myself in a nearly empty floor of the Wilde Bldg. to collaborate with team members that are either all in India, or out West. I noticed that they turned off the giant LCD screen near the cafeteria in order to save money as they try to keep the lights on in this architectural mid-century mausoleum.
2021: WFH is the future.
2024: Hybrid is the future.
2026: "come to the office 4 days a week because of culture"
The culture: Everyone with noise cancelling headphones.
@aw If they are clearly more than 50 miles radius from the office, I don't think their status will change. I suspect the issue will be on those listed as less than 50 based on zip code or map, that will be monitored more based on card reader and IP address / wireless tracking that they are in the office 4 days x 8 hours. The managers prior exception for actual commute time/distance may be revoked.
If they want wfh gone, it will be gone. Everyone signed wfh policy. It basically stated in it that it can be taken away anytime as they see fit. Sure, an exception can happen here and there, but if/when they want any position rto or just that person gone, they will just go with excuse of company restructuring to eliminate any positions wfh or not. They don’t give a cr-p about your work life balance. Shall see come July what comes down the pipeline. Hope for the Best but expect the worst.
@d0 Depends on the manager. My manager seemed to care about it even though I pushed back since we spent most of the day on video calls. I got laid off anyway. I don’t know if anyone else was forced back via RTO to take my empty seat.
There is zero actual enforcement of the RTO policy unless your manager is a je-k. I have heard of no punitive actions taken against anyone. That's not to say it hasn't happened, but the way they rolled it out might make them vulnerable to discriminatory lawsuits, whether they have basis (or even legal standing) or not. EX: There isn't enough desk space for all employees, so did they mandate more women, more people of color, etc. to RTO? I would assume they wouldn't want to rattle that cage with any punitive measures taken against non-compliance.
I went in and coffee badged for about 10% of the time they mandated the 2 (3? lol, who actually did that) days in office and haven't been to the place since like last Feb and the director of my org (my actual boss) hadn't even noticed/cared or been informed by anyone above them.
Assuming truth to these rumors, and they are probably true considering the environment lately here and everywhere else, any guesses or insight to when they might announce it? I'm thinking they will stay at least a few weeks away from BE official start as CEO, but before the July 1 date.
@c8 I have a coworker who is about 45 miles from the office and he just got his designation changed to work-at-home. So there is still some flexibility. Maybe that will change though but that would be very stupid.
@c8 Any llans to increase from the current 3 days?
last I heard was if within 50 miles to an office, you will be expected to rto.
Those outside of that will probably remain remote until they eliminate those roles due to “restructuring”.
Relocation or resignation
I don’t understand the question. A large percentage of employees are nowhere near an office.
We are already hybrid. It’s mandatory to come in 3 times a week
We can only hope that finally, requirements are applied across the board.
That would be interesting given how dispersed our workforce became 2017-covid.
