Most workplaces have some type of call-in or notification process so leaders know when someone will be out.

How have you reported absences in other jobs? I had to call into an attendance line at the hospital too so this isn't different for me. I'm wondering what other systems are out there.

I have not experienced this. Not sure what area you are in but if your leadership is making you feel this way they are not leading the way. I've never experienced this. If I was sick I just let them know and my core team know and that is that. You still need to let someone know as with any job. Sounds like you have a bad leader who needs more training.
