Two Week Notice

Does the company always honor a two-week notice? I want to keep my benefits through May, which would require me still being employed on May 1. If I give a two week notice on April 20 will they let me stick around for the rest of the month or do they sometimes cut people right away?

You should check your profile in Workday to see what your notice requirement is. Some people have 30 days, some have 60.

@ev but in the example you gave, you are still paid for your two weeks even if they decide not to have you work it.

@a8 You are not correct.
In certain jobs, they will indeed let you go early. This not related to the displacements we are seeing but separate. If they think you pose any risk whatsoever by continuing to work during your two weeks or your 30/60 days (for example, going to a competitor, or somehow doing damage to Wells Fargo), they will let you go before the end of your notice. Why would they do otherwise and take the risk to the bank?

It’s rare now that they cut people loose early. The notice periods starting this year for some levels are a lot longer than 2 weeks and it takes really high level leadership to get approval to leave before your notice period ends.

Whatever your end date is in Workday is what they honor even if they release you early.

Not always. There is manager discretion. Usually you are good to work out a notice but if you are going to a competitor policy is no you are done when you give your notice.

If you're giving notice of your intention to leave (resign), then why would WF "cut" you before your final day (which you choose)? It doesn't work that way. WF is happy when employees resign and leave on their own because it saves them a ton in severance payments.

I would recommend checking with HR/Payroll on when your last day needs to be in order for your benefits to run until the end of May. Let's say hypothetically they tell you Fri 5/01.

Then give your notice with Fri 5/01 as your last employment day at WF. You don't have to wait to give notice. You can do so now even if your last intended employment day is still several weeks out.

Moreover (and optionally), you can communicate to your manager/team that your last working day (not employment day) at WF will be Fri 4/17 (two weeks prior to Fri 5/01), and schedule in Workday > Absence > Non Routine Events > Two Week Notice Voluntary Resignation > for the 2 weeks leading up to Fri 5/01.
