Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

Technology Layoffs Today

The Ohio and Riverwoods based Discover Card Technology teams took a decent hit today. Sent them an email to join a meeting this morning and gave them the news, then said there would be a meeting later in the day with the severance details. It’s late in the day and still no details - lol. Class act!

@sy I don't agree at all. Discover was leagues more ethical and thought deeply on decisions impacting their employees

I wonder how many were affected. I heard as much as like 2k. Definitely a lot of tech. Probably some business people now and later in the year.

@tq True. This isn't so unique having layoffs after an acquisition, but Capital One has basically been doing soft layoffs twice a year since 2023 under its Amazonesque stack ranked performance management.

@qk This wasnt performance based. As they get closer to phasing out the Discover systems they are shrinking the teams. Some teams has been hit multiple times.

Discover wasn’t any better. This was only a matter of time.

I wonder if they put them on PIPs first or did the decent thing and just laid them off? Capone is nasty and capable of anything.
