Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Talking with some friends today...

and the topic of work came up. I admitted I worked for Wells Fargo. The first thing - and I mean THE FIRST THING one of them said was "they have horrible customer service and I won't bank there".
Now I admit I was a bit taken aback by that statement. I've been in some of the branches around here and they are pretty good, having been renovated and refreshed.
But then I thought to myself about all the cross-selling and accounts scandals over the years and it struck me. WF so seriously damaged their brand with those scandals (that we employees lived through btw) that memories are long and I don't think WF can do anything to fix it. I mean, if the first memory that surfaces is bad, in just a common conversation, what does that say about our employer?
Refresh the branches all you want, it won't help change people's minds.

You need better friends. What friend tries to bash a friend's employer?

The brand impact of sales practices and asset cap is still there, but hais greatly diminished… it’s almost gone. This is tracked through surveys.

People hate large banks in general and even chase at the top of the satisfaction -related surveys also has very public detractors.

For a long time I was afraid to tell people I worked for WFB. Almost every one of my friends shrugged it off. They know we have a terrible rep, but so do most other gigantic banks. It's not a secret that nobody likes the 800 lb gorillas in the financial services industry. They are a necessary evil.

The account scandal was a long time ago -- even before the Bud Light / Dylan Mulvaney Controversy. People don't need as much hand holding now. The digital refreshed bank does the hand holding without the branch office. I noticed one branch took out some offices and used the space for yet another ATM car lane.
I kind of agree with that guy who says that this Charlies "efficiency program" is the same culture but focused on abusing employees and not clients -- squeezing to save dollars -- not generating more. Same abusive culture -- just a different target.

Taken aback by what? If this company treats its employees like cr-p the way it is do you really think they give a rats a-s about the customers? You are right - the reputational damage is done and permanently etched into everyone's mind. Nobody I have talked to over the years had anything positive to say about this bank no matter how much the company wants you to think otherwise.

I never admit to working for WF unless it's absolutely necessary.

They don't care.
And they are still doing the same thing.
My manager asked me to say yes to his requests, just like he does with his manager.
That's the culture here.
