DEI ki-led the talent pool in Vz. Here's a thought...find next CEO from the AD level down to craft pool. Ivan was a Tech....and company did great. The Director and Up are Strayer, DEI types (50%) so that won't work

To go to another International route of failed Vz Sr leadership makes zero business sense in USA market... and knowing the incompetence of Verizon Board it could happen!

If you had to undergo surgery would you choose a surgeon who’s never performed the procedure before but seems to have potential or would you choose one who has successfully performed it many times before?

Verizon keeps choosing the inexperienced people who seem to have potential.

Board! Board! Board! Danny boy's each and every statement starts with Board and ends with Board, very boring. Weak leadership and no direction :).

@ah There’s talent inside the company. The problem is that the people that are good at schmoozing and faking achievements get promoted and the ones that deliver the goods typically don’t.

My point is that experience matters and you’re unwittingly adding grist to my mill. Someone who was good in wireless won’t necessarily be good in wireline and vice versa! When the Vodafone acquisition closed we got EDs and VPs from wireline who were clearly out of their depth.

Putting someone who’s a virgin to the US wireless in charge of the consumer group makes as much sense as putting VLDP / NLDP in charge of people who are way more experienced and more knowledgeable than them.

Ironically, Dan was once the CEO of Virgin Mobile!

@ae give me a break. A lot of that elite executive wireless talent went to wireline and couldn't move the needle. It was obvious they rode the tailwind of a wireless bo-m when you could do no wrong. Those days are over sunshine, you need folks that know how to transform a company from the bloated bureaucratical telecom to a lean competitor that can position the company for future state, whatever that might be. Maybe a 'd-mb pipe'? who knows

@OP well, on the basis the guy put in as interim (Alfonso) is exactly what you describe then yes, 100%.

With Cyril in from BT also I'm starting to wonder if this is part of the negotiated position and the joint venture with BT for Verizons International interests is not as dead as we think

@aa Are you convinced that out of the thousands of Verizon wireless employees that know the competitive landscape inside and out and who have outcompeted AT&T and T-Mobile for years that there’s isn’t a single one that’s more qualified than some dude who’s never done anything in the US wireless industry?

VZ has internal talent issues, obviously. Whose fault is that?

@OP The most conclusive proof of truly sh---y upper management is that they can never find a solid internal candidate to fill these executive positions. This goes all the way back to Ivan Seidenberg.

Companies that are successful in the long run put a lot of effort into succession planning. They don’t push out potential contenders!
