Looking back, did your life and career turn out the way you expected by 2016?

I doubled my previous non-XOM salary on Day 1 with the Company. I’ve progressed through jobs in downstream and upstream, but at year 13 and age 49 I can see things leveling. I’m too conservative to promote and too competent to PIP. So I’m hanging out in non-HQ jobs and will consult at 55.
I was feeling pretty good around the 10 year mark at EM. In hindsight, I should have left after 10 years. After 10 years, I found opportunities shrinking at a more rapid pace, and things getting more toxic. My first 10 years were great. The following years, not so much. Thankfully have left EM, and life outside of EM has been much better.
Better than expected - salary more than doubled - pace as anticipated- but opportunities i got to work became wider and better than expected
False advancement pace promises and disappointing raises. Getting worse and worse over time.

Yes, I am delighted. I retired from EM in 2016 after working the oilfield for 35 years. I saw the world, raised a family and became financially independent. For the last 10 years I’ve been on vacation. What’s not to love, ha! Life is good. Thank you very much. :)
worked out fine. the progress was a bit slower than expected but $$$ added up and compensated just fine.

Career disappointed in terms of advancement, but market performance made up for that.
Lower stress than expected after incubating in xom for a decade.
The paternity leave is a highlight for me. The meaning comes from enjoying family life after dealing w extards all day.

I started right around 2016.
I have more saved then I thought I would.
Career wise, I assumed I would have been a supervisor by now.
Salary wise, I had projected 5% increase a year when I started, so I’m beating that.
Fulfillment wise, love my family, really don’t love this job.
