Thread regarding PowerSchool layoffs

Layoffs, December 10th

Hi team,

As we’ve shared, PowerSchool is entering a new chapter focused on simplifying, streamlining, and strengthening how we work. We’ve been transparent about the need for change to drive sustained growth and unlock the value our customers expect.

As a result, we are moving forward with a restructuring of our organization to streamline our management model; one built for clarity, accountability, and speed. This will help us focus on what matters most: delivering for our customers, strengthening our operations, and setting PowerSchool up for long-term success.

Today, our PX and leadership teams are meeting with these impacted individuals. For some, today will be their last day at PowerSchool, while others are being asked to remain in their current roles for a transition period before departing. Furthermore, as part of these personnel changes intended to streamline our operations, we are moving some employees into new teams. This is the only company-wide workforce action planned based on our projected performance going forward.

I want all our employees to be aware that these actions are taking place now and that the notifications will be completed by close of business local time. After we complete the notification process, I will be hosting a global Town Hall at 8AM PT on December 11 to address open questions and share additional details of what’s changing and what’s ahead.

This is a comprehensive effort across all our company operations to eliminate redundancies and unnecessary costs. We looked at consolidating our technology stack, removing underutilized or unused applications, and simplified processes to reduce costs in other areas of the business.

While this yielded significant savings, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to downsize our workforce to eliminate duplicative work and realign our organizational structure with current priorities and performance. This decision was not made lightly. The individuals impacted have contributed to the success of PowerSchool and in general they have all performed well for the company. We wish them the best in the future.

We are supporting every impacted individual through their transition with as much clarity and care as possible. Employees that are separating from the organization will receive severance and additional compensation based on tenure and local regulations. They will also receive continued support from our PX team as well as outplacement services.

This is a difficult time for impacted employees, so we ask for understanding and kindness towards these colleagues. Please take time to support one another and reach out to your manager or the PX team if you have questions or need any support.

Thank you,
Antonio Pietri, CEO

Did anyone else’s teams see layoffs that consisted of 95% women like mine?

As the previous loser CEO that just so happened to fail upwards, I just want to say “Antonio, you are doing great!”

Laying people off right before Christmas especially when you mentioned you would be sympathetic to the PowerSchool family and teams! Chefs kiss!

As a previous leader of the Support organization, I am very pleased to see PowerSchool go the route of increasing their efforts in AI while lowering the level of investment in their employees year over year. It brings me great joy to see my fellow colleagues and staff suffer around the holidays; I didn’t even stoop this low and I was paid handsomely to lower morale for the 4 or so years I oversaw the Support team. Cheers!

DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY. THEY LOWBALL THEIR EMPLOYEES AND THEN DUMP YOU WHEN THEY FEEL THEY HAVE WRENCHED ENOUGH BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS OUT OF YOU!

Antonio Pietri is the devil.

I too was let go today. A 5 minute zoom required meeting to tell me and my peers that we were no longer welcome to return to work after the call ended felt so callous. Not to mention, they didn’t open the chat to allow us questions nor did they even seem to care (this done 2 weeks before Christmas still leaves me feeling frustrated and anxious). We knew there would be fallout from the security breach but to just about end the tenure of the ENTIRE North American teams in favor of cheaper India/Mexico/Uruguay prospects should make all US-based districts think twice of continuing or doing any business with this crummy “company”. Wishing the worst for people like Antonio Pietri, Nabeel and the sc-mbag upper leadership team that believed THIS was the way to go and the right time to do so. EFF YOU!!!

@c7 this is the offer. A month and benefits until the EOY. Was expecting more. But with how PS has been going, I’m not shocked. Bain should be embarrassed.

The offer

  • healthcare til the end of this month.
  • 2 weeks severance per year worked
  • prorated bonus despite working all year

EFF PS: Hope this company fails. Products are way too expensive, and cutting corners with overseas non-English-speaking flunkies never works out.

@bg Mexico. He said he was going to look to Mexico and latin America to outsource. I think India is being curbed as well.

Must be outsourcing to the Philippines or India so they can grow their profits

@ay I too was laid off today, and it's is a shame. A lot of the people impacted on my team are super high performers, and those left at the company are just political pawns for the new leadership, who will no doubt fail at their jobs.

I can't believe how poorly this was handled, and the severance package is a JOKE. Doing this right before the holidays is absolutely heartless.

My husband was impacted. 15 years with the company, top performer. He found out when he couldn't log in after lunch, so he couldn't join the "Organizational announcement" call. He called his boss and his boss told him his position was elminiated, and that separation information was sent to his personal email. 10 days before Christmas. As an outsider, I've long seen how dysfunctional this organization is. He trained a bunch of new hires to his team, without additional compensation, and was still expected to hit all his metrics despite spending 2-3 hours every day with the newbies. Well guess what? He was probably training his replaement without realizing it. The new people are located overseas and work for a fraction of a US based employee, so it's clear what the motivation was. It’s really disappointing that the company chose to do layoffs right before Christmas. It feels so unfair and heartbreaking, especially during a time meant for comfort and celebration
