The thought of near-certain severance is the only reason I am still here. Otherwise, I would have left long ago given the uncertainty and constant stress.

So glad I took severance and ran a few years back but as mentioned, the job market is really tough right now so hang in there if you can. As also stated, layoffs and restructures are unfortunately just part of Corporate America. Even a few years back it took a few months to find a new job and while I am happy where I am at now, the uncertainty is tough when you are in between jobs. Good luck to all still hanging in there!
@OP - "uncertainty and constant stress."
That's the Work World. Strong odds that the next place you work will have similar conditions.
During my 40 year career, I've worked for many different Fortune 500 companies (especially in Consulting) and I can report that "the grass is always greener on the other side." That is, until you get there.
Honestly, if you’re looking to retire or just want a break from working, collecting severance and unemployment is pretty nice. But if you need to find another job or if you’re worried about running out of money …. The job market is horrible right now and that can be frustrating.
