Im in the vzt world. I was just wondering what you guys do? Do you work in a CO or in the field? Are you union or non union? What sort of thing does a vzb tech handle that a regular I&M or SST wouldn’t?
Excuse my ignorance, I’m relatively new and genuinely curious.
VZB tech in the Northeast. We are IBEW. We have terminals which are pretty much the same thing as a CO. We have fiber that goes to CO's. VZB is made up of different companies that Verizon has purchased over the years. We have Verizon Business, XO, and MCI Worldcom. As others mentioned we are jack of all trades.
@a2 As a retired VZB tech, what he said is 100% correct. They do this and more. It's a Sh*t Show with sorry 2nd level in management in Florida. I would stay away if you want to keep your sanity. I know techs who have had health & mental issues because of it.
@a2 Same here in FL. We do everything except VZW work. Now all of a sudden, we are splitting up inside/outside work.... how's that going to work with only 1 tech in some areas? Not a good plan.

Yes we are Union in MA, RI, ME, NH. CWA in CT.
@a2 thank you. Yeah we have strict separation of duties on this side which can be good or bad depending on how you look at it. I’m guessing you guys are non union right now?
VZB comm tech, we do ssim, power, transport, COT, splice fiber, all CPE work, if it breaks we fix it, I mean all of it, anything and everything , we have contractors place fiber now and splice recently. They decided today we are either a COT or all OSP/CPE/SSIM combo tech after Jan 2, 2026. We’ll see how this works out.
