Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

NJ Notice Period

I am fortunate NJ provides protection that requires VZ to keep me on the payroll a bit longer.

Would it make sense to increase our 401(k) contributions for the almost two months in 2026 we get paid in NJ so we get more of the VZ 6% match? Or am I overthinking things?

@a6 Thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for. I think I will put as much as I can in the first few 2026 pay periods to get the 6% on VZ. Every little bit helps.

@a5 If this were a more traditional run of the mill RIF I would agree with this, but the hiring freeze plus no open positions with another possible RIF on the horizon makes me thing there is little to no chance of landing another VZ position in under 90 days.

@a5 I hope you aren't putting all your eggs in that basket. If anything they'll be laying off more post merger. Right now there's pretty much a hiring freeze and those managers who had open positions gave them up in order to save the people they have.

@a2 they can't prevent you from increasing your 401k contributions (within legal limits) as long as you are an active employee. However, the company only matches up to 6%.

Honestly if you are on payroll until February you have a 80% chance of finding another job in the company, there will be more opening coming with the frontier merger just continue to check in the portal i know other states might bit be as lucky due to the 30 days thing bur think positive thats the one thing with jersey alot of folks who get rifted have a higher chance at another role due the 90 days we get

@a2 You asked? Or you went into Fidelity, changed it, and was told no?

@a1 The NJ off payroll date is 2/20/26. So yes, I will be "working" for VZ 2026.

Tried that with the VSP last year. Got a big NO from HR.

You won't be working for Verizon in 2026.
