why work hard for this company ?

The Impact on Morale and Purpose

Your question, "why work hard for this company?" cuts to the heart of employee motivation in this environment.

Betrayal of Purpose: The memo speaks of pride, mission, and strengthening the company. Yet, the layoffs make the reality feel transactional: people are costs to be cut, not valued assets. This strips away any feeling of shared purpose.
The "More Layoffs Coming" Fear: The atmosphere after a major layoff often includes a period of "survivor's guilt" and intense anxiety about the next round of cuts. This fear is a massive morale drain and can lead to lower productivity, as employees may prioritize securing their next role over the company's work.

@d5 I witnessed 2 burn outs , one fell on the floor and blacked out totally at the last mile negotiations at the lawyer offices, the other collapsed at the store and I was called at 11PM to meet the customer the next day (3 hours drive)

I worked night and day, during my vacation and late at night for YEARS... I never had a sick day either , like many sometimes do, just because theyhave other personnal projects on the side.... I got kicked out nonetheless. Politics.

Yes work ethics, I understand that. It's the reason why this is really painfull when they git of you and keep low performers....

I would definitely be someone who would appear to work harder than they should. And I am not naive about what the company thinks of me. I do it becuase ... well for several reasons. One is personal ethics. They pay me what they say they will pay me so I feel like I should put forth an honest effort during the hours I am expected to be working. The company has not promised any more than that and I don't expect the company to care or notice even.Just so long as that check keeps coming. BUT that said most rifs I've seen in my time in VZ have been mostly performance based. And let's be honest- putting forth even half effort everyday and not being a pain in the a-s otherwise puts you well ahead of most of your peers. People who have only ever worked at VZ are a different type, they seem to think they are special and things are owed to them because of this. It comes as quite a shock when they find out that neither is the case

Hard enough to meet expectation at work, and then hard enough to exceed personal life.

@a5 no. As much as I love this company. No.
This was a step too far for me.
I held the last remaining threads of the credo. They are gone.

Exactly! And here is the problem… they F us for years… that translates to customer experience.. customers leave..
so now we leave because customers leave.. so we got F by management.

Side note. People need to stop using the word Leadership, as that’s been missing since probably 2014. Maybe a bit earlier
