To avoid many employees crying in the office?
@a6 Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol' days, when my mama sang us to sleep, but now we're stressed out.
Good thing.
Many teams are already being told to WFH on Thursday. Layoff notices will be via telephone. They probably don't want people in the office as that is going on. Thursday is going to be a very bad day for many people as the grapple with losing their jobs in a labor market that is horrible. Other companies have told people to stay home on layoff day or week.

Was the communication directed to you only or the team in general?
If it is the team and you work in a big team then this is a damage control tactic by HR specially that media outlets will be looking for any videos of the previously reported layoffs.
