Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon offered $4 million retention bonuses to two top executives — Sowmyanarayan Sampath and Anthony Skiadas

Schulman is planning cost cuts that are likely to result in the reduction of about 15,000 jobs, The Journal reported Thursday. Verizon currently employs about 100,000 people.

A source familiar with the situation told The Post that the 15,000 figure is “in the ballpark” and that layoff notices are expected to be sent out to affected employees next week.

Verizon offered $4 million retention bonuses to two top executives — consumer group head Sowmyanarayan Sampath and finance chief Anthony Skiadas — to keep them through at least the end of 2027, according to the Journal.

Schulman told a Wall Street Journal event this week that Verizon needs to get “scrappier and less bureaucratic.”

@ca I ran reports for customer surveys. The vast majority of detractors had to do with offshore and/or the real issue never being addressed or solved. The data was always there. Customers were threatening churn before it happened, then Vz acts surprised when it does. I was told directly by a Director, that the cost savings for offshore is way too high for things to change. This was about a year before they eliminated my position & laid off my entire department except for 3 managers. The supervisor who laid me off, got laid off directly after notifying everyone on her team.

What they need to do is address all the lies and credits given by external employees. They transfer calls at least 5x before a customer can get assistance. Who have the non Verizon centers to save cost. But what is the actual cost. You lose customers because they are tired of calling in for something simple that turns into a disaster and they have to call back 50-11 times to get fixed what the other rep messed up. Customers have lost confidence in Verizon it's no longer we value our customers it's we value NOTHING.

Evidentially they’ve decided the problem was the 15,000 employees who will be let go & that these two “leaders” were not motivated enough without a retention bonus?

That’s laughable that they would pay retention bonuses to those two. Demote them to individual contributor roles where they can no longer do more damage, or better yet just fire them for cause, let them go and bring in some real talent that can get us out of the mess these two created.

@ag People STOP blaming the Indians, Asians Blacks, Latinos for the failure of businesses in this Country failure. The business decisions that are being made are decided by THE MAN no these immigrants that goes their Countries. Just like your ancestors did. We can’t point fingers or be angered, they are the recipients of these cluster fcuk decisions made by THE MAN who is only looking out for the rich. You guys voted for these very men who are laying us off to and taking care of their own (the rich). We’re the id--ts who believed that the rich were going to actually look out for us. Ben Shapiro recently said, “if you can’t afford to live in this Country, then you can just leave.” This is why wealthy Americans continue to give us their a$$ to kiss while the underclass men continue to fight with each other. When will we wise up and learn?

All of the Value leadership and some that robbed all of Tracfone employees for their jobs should be fired! Verizon ruined Tracfone and the pre paid business! How do they think hiring people from past failed programs to run “Value” would need fixing on a program that needed no fixing! Fu-k DK, Jay, and the rest of them.

That's so unfortunate, not that those two are not worthy but that so many rank & file employees including managers are getting kicked to the curb. V team your butt!

Sampath really lowered the morale of front line employees. They expect customer service reps to just take abuse from customers with a smile and push the same sales as the sales team with no commission and less tools. What a joke! Customers are leaving because since he came along, customers are paying more for less and employees are expected to do the dirty work and get verbally abused with a smile. I hope all top leadership loses their positions. Costumers are better off at T-MOBILE.

They oughta be making the cuts by reducing the salaries of the CEO and other top executives, not laying off the employees that make a tenth of their salaries. Corporate America is an absolute joke. Eventually, enough customers will leave and the top crust of the Fortune companies will turn on one another.

Besides selling phones they need to think outside the box to capture market with innovation and new products. Need to leverage network and be on top.

@OP this is EXACTLY why Verizon is falling short ! Inadequate leadership that gets a bonus while they let the low level managers go for doing what leadership guided them to do . You will see things get worse these 2 clowns are at the helm during the failure

Does anyone really thank that Sampath could get an equivalent job anywhere else? Waste of money paying him a retention bonus.
