RTO question-any WF office?

May have been asked before but having difficult weeding through postings.

I have multiple offices ( not bank branches) closer to me than my assigned office which is 1-2 hrs commute away. Does it count as RTO if I’m on the WF network at a non-assigned location? Asked manager and he doesn’t know, asked his manager and he said he doesn’t know, asked his manager and he said maybe but not sure. I don’t care about being in an office as long as I don’t waste 2-3 hrs commuting each day. TIA for any info.

According to rumor, my LOB will be moving to 5 days per week in-office starting 2024.

You might be allowed to go to a closer office (it happens), but you can't do it without approval because you'd need physical access.

Charlotte here. I, like so many of us here, live much closer to Ballantyne than Uptown. Sorry, but I refuse to battle traffic and pay for parking only to jump on zoom since my team is nowhere near the east coast. I had my permanent office changed to Ballantyne, but I do see lots of you that are assigned to Uptown taking over the few private offices. I would appreciate any of the following:

  • Allow me to be fully remote since no one on my team is here (that is never going to happen)
  • Enforce building assignments (I don’t think they can at this point if ever)
  • Exit some of the real estate in Uptown and add more office space in south Charlotte so employees aren’t forced to pay for parking and deal with a nasty commute)

Is it too much to ask that this company get with the times and actually consider that when you treat employees with respect as adults and demonstrate you actually care about them that they may return the respect and feel better about their work? Wouldn’t this drive better outcomes?

Tell us more about how you don't travel for the company...

We were told to be in YOUR ASSIGNED LOCATION, 3 days per week, a minimum of 6 hours a day for it to count...otherwise, you're on "the list"

It does not care what building - just a building. I am also in CLT my "assigned" building is on the other side of town and so I just go to the closest building. No one cares mostly because no one I work with is in Charlotte

@1mkk+1kPXZ4IR This is 100% not true. They know what building and how long. This is functionally that has always existed for basic capacity planning and safety. Idk what your director is on about.

This company wastes an incredible amount of time on something that has no relevance regarding the bottom line or compliance. We have very specific job descriptions, and working in a specific building is rarely part of it.

We received instruction from our executive director that the badge report can't identify how long you are in the office or even which office you badged in at. All it shows is you badged in that day.

Short term answer is that it won’t matter. Badge swipes are recorded for each site along with IP documentation if management wants to use it.

Long term answer is you are assigned to a specific site to balance load and effect the future plan. There will be a point when you will be mandated to work from your assigned location or some unspecified repercussions will occur. Whether you care or not is up to you.

The simple solution is to have your manager put in to change your location and if approved and updated then you have nothing to worry about. If the change is authorized but not updated in your records then assume you will be forced to change location at some point in the future but until that date you are clear to work from another location.

Charlotte. Been going to a different building for 7 months, not a peep from my micromanaging manager from out of state.

It must, at least in Charlotte. In the overpopulated 'burb of Ballantyne, there's a morning jockeying that goes on for all the common space areas first in the Ballantyne site, so that all those upstanding team members can skip the grind of traffic heading uptown.

I don't think the people assigned to the site are too keen about it, but who cares? If your badge works, go for it!

Consumer lending allows you to go to any office for badge counts. Found 2 offices closer than my dedicated office

If you are bank you can’t work in a brokerage office

You'll need to check if a seat is available for you.

like everything related to RTO your mileage will vary. my team has been told from our director and their manager that location will. it be held against them, at least at this point. they just care about getting people into office, any office will do. that could change. instead of asking an anonymous board you should email your manager or your leaders to ask them.

Tracking will be at the IP address and badge tracking level. Don’t let that be misunderstood. What has been communicated to managers? Is that the work address in workday for you is where you go and what you will be tracked to.

I think originally they wanted people to stick to assigned locations, which were hubs where possible. At this point, I think they care more about people going into an office, and location itself doesn't matter as much.

Why do we even have managers? Or What function do they perform?

Some managers will reassign you to a closer location (if space is available). The badge swipe is the main way of tracking.
