Does anyone know how they would check if you are in office? Can I just swipe my badge and leave?

Couldn’t be more wrong. “Rubbish” is a vibes comment and while that might be your truth, it’s not reasonable to assert your truth over everyone else’s in something like a workplace. Data says otherwise and it shows yet again, Nike is not a serious company anymore. Too busy with vibes to know the data.
Routinely we see data that shows there is no discernible uptick in quality of work when going from office to remote, in any significant way. Google it. It’s easy to find.
You know they'll audit VPN logs and know you're connecting via external IP address, right?

@ad+1k9fe3397 Doesn't work when most desks can be raised and lowered for standing. I rarely sit when working and am onsite 4 days a week.

Scan your badge once a day and never again means you never once leave your building in 8 hours. That will flag. They can see how many badge scans happen per day. They can see the IP location your computer connects from as well. This is common sense here. Everything can be monitored.
Just work as prescribed 9-5 M-F. Been done over a century. Covid is kaput. WFH is rubbish

At least you have a job. I will gladly trade situations with you and not mind at all RTO. And you can worry about making rent and family medical coverage when cobra severance ends.

Noticed bugs in the BIS v1. Since folks were gaming the system by keeping weights on the chair, we have added PSI monitoring. An occasional fa-t check is necessary to verify its a real human.
Being implemented is a new workforce tracking technology BIS (Butts In Seat). It measures the force applied to an office chair and synchronized to your badge. Metadata (specifically Date and Time when chair was engaged) is centrally tracked and reported, similar to the Apple Watch activities ring.
The manager should do their job and enforce it. If you are being asked to RTO and you don't want to, then find another job. Someone else will take your place.
