Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Working under a control freak

I've been here for a year and I've come to realize my manager can’t let anything go. He changes directions mid-project, gives out bad info, and sticks his nose into things he clearly doesn’t understand. Every decision turns into a meeting about making his own boss happy instead of getting the job done. It’s exhausting and makes it really hard to get any work completed efficiently. Is this a known Wells Fargo thing or did I just get very unlucky?

Absolutely. Any simple information request from my manager evolves into a subjective exercise with multiple follow-on requests for variations of the same thing in an effort to manage the “optics”. It’s exhausting.

The CSO and OC are packed to the gills with control freaks. Wiping your own azz requires OC approval at this point. It's a complete joke.

Hm I think I know you. Are you in ITSO?We must be on the same team and looks like you are talking about my manager who exactly matches with what you have described. And I get you changing directions, not letting employee to focus with constant check-ins and obsessed micromanagement trying to please his manager, changing timelines with timeline getting shorter and shorter and frequent are you done messages inbetween. Want us to make mistakes so it’s easy to prey on and make candidates ready for next round of layofffs starting with raise and bonus cuts.

For what it’s worth, I read this and thought we must work for the same person.

There are good managers here, but this is common. This is what happens when middle managers are reduced to henchmen for the whimsical desires of their JPMC cronies. They don’t know which way is up, and we all suffer for it.
