Here is what came back when I asked AI about controversies under Schulman whilst CEO of PayPal:
Account Seizure Controversy
One of the most notable scandals occurred in February 2022, when PayPal faced a RICO complaint from a user who alleged that the company had a pervasive practice of seizing funds from customer accounts without adequate justification or due process. The lawsuit claimed that PayPal essentially operated as an unregistered bank, freezing and seizing funds under the pretense of violating its acceptable use policy. This practice left users struggling to reclaim their money, causing a considerable uproar among customers.
The plaintiff argued that PayPal’s actions amounted to fraud and deceptive business practices, as the terms of service included clauses that were deemed overly restrictive or illegal. This lawsuit was not isolated; a class action suit had also been filed shortly before, indicating a systemic issue that resonated with many users.
Public Response and Social Issues
Schulman was also known for his vocal stance on social issues, which sometimes led to public backlash. In 2016, PayPal decided to cancel plans for a global operations center in Charlotte, North Carolina, in response to a controversial law targeting the LGBTQ+ community. This decision garnered both praise and criticism, demonstrating how Schulman's social activism approach was a double-edged sword impacting corporate reputation.
Schulman's emphasis on social issues demonstrated his belief that corporate leaders should engage in meaningful societal conversations, yet it also placed the company in contentious positions with certain political and social groups.
If he is going to take share, the only way is through pricing and that will be offset by reduced overhead. Buckle up, its going to be bumpy.
That said, there is a litany of VPs, SVPs and EVPs that need to be marched out the door.
VZ needs a serious cultural change. Smooth talking / optic chasing BSers and political cronyism has wrecked this place worse that an H1B in the bathroom.
@an It sounds like YOU are stupid, Sampath! Hans is a flim flam man, just like you!
Why wait until the end of the month?
As someone that has also owned PayPal stock for years, i can complain about him right now. It was under the final 2 yrs of Dan's watch, (before being pointed to the door) that shares of PYPL dropped from over $300 to under $60. He also feels its a corporations job to be "a good person" (it's not), and that Capitalism in broken. Sounds a lot like Hans... except there will be no fear of him running around yelling "5 Geeeeeeeeeeeeee". So I guess that a plus.
If everyone was able to give Hans an opportunity (even though many of us knew his history), then we should definitely give Dan the opportunity to right this ship
Dan is STUPID. Bring back Hans!
Its funny how everyone is ignoring the obvious about this man just AI what the scandal was about at paypal see who in charge you guys are hilarious for no cohones im getting off this board bunch of yes men on here smh
That's pretty pessimistic given he was Directors Lead and chosen by the BOD itself.....
