Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

FED tech support to be gone very soon and more jobs to be leaving the USA

I can confirm the rumors about outsourcing FED and PSONE are true , it slipped out in a meeting today.

And it gets worse: the entire IT service in the U.S. is set to be shut down.

Even more bad news : phase 3 will wipe out all Dell U.S. jobs in layered tech support, IM and SAM included.

For PSONE and FED, the target is August 2026. Phase 3 looks set for around January 2027. Phase 1 is already underway , they’ve started cutting jobs in the U.S., and the process is nowhere near over.

In short, it looks like Dell is shifting its workforce from the U.S. to lower-cost countries just to pinch pennies. The rumors about shutting down offices in OKC, Limerick, Cork, and elsewhere are probably true too.

Not 100% true... i am based in Europe and worked across FeD and normal Dell issues as long as I didn't document specific fed details. Just had to be both areas impacted and a blind eye was turned.

@ad - he's talking about fed based tech support for customers, not the internal service desk. There isn't a "fed" tech support per se. It's normal US based techs who have been cleared to take Fed support cases.

Like everyone has said, these cannot be offshored. They can be outsourced, but the govt pays a lot of money for support. No knock on @ac, but a L1 or L2 support agent generally has no clue about whats going on in the business above their heads.

I can confirm the IT Infrastructure being shut down part of this post. Just talked with a friend that is there, they got the news on August 12th. No timeline was given but they felt the bulk of the layoffs would be in September and the entire group eliminated in the first half of next year.

@OP FED cannot be outsourced outside the US...... Plus the Cork office is not closing, the Cork campus is heart of manufacturing, no way that is closing.

Outsourced doesn't mean offshored
Outsourced can still be in US. Just not Dell employees

CSG Fed Support Here. I have to say this isn’t surprising, they’ve been very transparent about eliminating tech support. Also there are Fed ‘things’ being handled in India. The time difference causes some problems with stuff but it’s swept under the rug.

They’ve automated nearly everything anyway. There’s very little CSG Fed tech support that requires a human. They could be doing all of this online. We have tech direct etc and Fed mostly wants parts.

2014 - back and forth between Dell Badged Chat Agents and 3rd party site out of Tampa at the time. They couldn’t agree on billing since chat agents must take 2 chats at once. They brought chat back to Dell badged in a hurry since they couldn’t come to an agreement. Resolved eventually.

2014- 3rd party site not getting enough calls. Dell Agents moved to training all day so that the 3rd party could get the number calls in their contract.

2015 - eliminated ProSupport out of Nashville. ‘Cost per call’ was too high.

2015-2017 ‘tag team’ (global asset management) and the system exchange team outsourced to another country.

2020 - CSG ProSupport manager told me that the OKC site was closing(at least for support) but didn’t have a time frame.

2023 - all system exchanges not approved by DTC must get VP approval. Someone came up with a formula for a ‘cost of DSAT’ and determined it wasn’t worth sending a new system to the customer and would rather take a bad survey.

Sometime recently - (no new hires in US Dell badged ProSupport in years) they outsourced all of Echannel(email, chat, any non phone) contacts to Panama and Costa Rica.

They changed the ProSupport contract to read ‘in region’ instead of ‘North America’ or ‘US Based’

Also any replacement parts not approved by DTC must now be approved by a manager.

Ultimately customers haven’t been pi---d enough for Dell to care.

AMA - tech support

This lines right up with moving all US Fed system production to North Korea…. I knew it.

I mean, why wouldn't Dell follow suit and outsource tech support to India? As someone who once worked in the Pro Support department many years ago, one of the main differences between "Pro Support" and "Pro support Plus" was that with "plus" you were guarenteed to talk to someone in the US. But little did they know, PS and PS+ were the same fkn people lol.

Fed doesn't have "tech support" in the traditional sense though. There is no external support to customers. FED has a tech support line soley meant to support those who work in FED and nobody else (My VPN isn't working/connecting. I can't login to my computer. I forgot my password, etc....)
The fed department doesn't make computers and doesn't supply tech support to customers having issues with their computer - or whatever tf else. It's literally JUST internal to... fed employees.

Which can't be outsourced due to US legal regulations and compliance.

Corporate tech support? Absolutely can and WILL eventually be outsourced 100%

Tell me you have no idea how FED works without telling me... Because FED employees - literally anybody - cannot be outsourced outside of the USA lmfao.

Not sure what the point of this post was but, try to make it more believable I guess?

If you are going to write a fake af post, make it believable at least?

As someone who works in the security branch in FED, I 10000% promise you one thing. WE CANNOT BE OUTSOURCED. Not tech support. Not IT. Not cyber. Not Devs. NOBODY can.

As long as there are active US government contracts at Dell FED, it's quite literally not an option to outsource. In fact, Dell doesn't even have the option because it's law that we cannot outsource. ANYBODY who works in the FED department MUST be a US citizen and LIVE on US soil.

Doesn't matter if you are in Tech support, Sales, IT, a developer, TMX, cyber, etc... Not a US citizen living IN the US? can't be outsourced.

Try again because, this post is 100% bs and fake lmfao
