Wells Fargo is stooping to new lows in their efforts to improve profits. Don’t trust a word they say.
A few months back, our Managing Director said he wanted to start cross-training in our department to “improve the department’s agility and resiliency.” Everyone jumped in and collaborated. Experienced senior employees took junior employees under their wings and openly shared their wealth of knowledge. Can you see what is coming? We didn’t - we trusted managers with whom we have worked with for decades.
Last week, they laid off some of our top most respected people in the department. These are the people who we all relied upon for answers and guidance, because the managers are never around and often can’t help when they are. They laid off the people who set the tone for hard work, the people with irreplaceable institutional knowledge, the people who increased the productivity of those around them.
- To those who were laid off: You will be missed. You are the cohesive glue that held this place together. Our department will never be the same without you.
- To WfC Management: You’ve shown your hand. You only get to do that once. Do you think any of us want to “cross-train” our associates in the future? You don’t know the work and are incapable of training anyone, so good luck with that.
- To all WFC employees: Know what and who you are dealing with. There is a plan in place, so unfortunately you can’t believe a word your manager tells you. We’ve all seen it happening elsewhere in this large bank, so it’s been easy to pretend like “it won’t happen to us, it won’t happen to the good people, it won’t happen in our department because we are already short-handed, it won’t happen to me because my manager is a good guy… “ Oh yes- it’s happening. Take care of yourselves.
