My "team" is scattered all over the country and the world.
My customers are scattered all over the country and the world.
THere is no reason for someone doing my work (IT) to be in an office.
I do enjoy getting together sometimes, drinks, a lunch here and there, but the OP clearly doesn't mind spending useless time in traffic or paying for gas or dry cleaning or putting up with Steve microwaving fish to go with his blue cheese dressing.
But I guess not everyone has a life.
I pointed this out first day back. Built-in water dispenser designed to keep from using plastic bottles had a status of "red" indicating replacement filter needed. Two years ago, the vehicle parking lines in the parking lot were so faded yo could barely see them. They're actually worse now. CPG's hands must be awfully warm as they obviously have been sitting on them for two years!

People who are courageous and resolute will not go into the office. These are the people who will voice their opposition. They are in charge of their own lives.
People who are fearful and indecisive will meekly go into the office. They will say whatever they think their managers want to hear, and parrot whatever message management is spewing on that day. These people are not in charge of their own lives. They are controlled by others.

Ours hasn’t been cleaned. It stinks and belches out these little black flakes into the water. Then again, our office looks nothing like the office they show in the RTO video. We each have desks about 5 feet wide and are packed in like sardines. Garbage is overflowing, bathrooms are half broken, dust on everything. Our equipment is all old stuff, not the new ultrawides they show in the video, you get harassed for handouts or threatened with violence from about 50 people walking to your building and all of the buildings around ours are mostly empty.
Speaking of water coolers - have the water lines / filters / whatever been cleaned since 2 years ago or are we drinking mold and toxins with each cup of water from the water cooler…!?

Also, we did conference calls while in the office because no one had a team with everybody in the same office... that never happened so RTO isn't getting back to something we never did which was in person meetings with the entire team... NEVER HAPPENED so why does this poster seem to think we would believe that they had an all team meeting in the same room... DID NOT HAPPEN... another lie

That sounds like HR speak to me... who says that? ok, maybe some people might like to meet in person, but they are not in IT... maybe sales people ... A guy on my team just came down with COVID. He just told me. He could have caught it from anywhere, but he thinks he caught it at the office.
We don't even have a water cooler at my office.

You are the worst kind of manager. Your directs shouldn’t fear you or feel pressure. You are there to elevate them and manage their needs. That’s all management is supposed to.
@1qvj, so, so agree. I bet the bully and gossip in my area is in heaven. I wonder what she did at home when she didn't have anyone to bully. I am sure she kept the gossip up via skype.
Roughly 30 people spread out across a sea of 250 cubes all wearing masks and didnt say a single word to each other all day was amazing for collaboration. The water cooler and coffee machine sat untouched while everyone sat with headphones on doing online meetings with their peers thousands of miles away. Did see some smiles when everyone reached the parking lot.
I am a manger and missed being able to put pressure my directs. This is like heaven for me.

My RTO has been mixed. The work is burdensome.
First day back two chicks who have been waiting to see me jumped my bones. I was getting pinged today asking where I was and they cannot wait to see me again and want to go for a walk. Tomorrow I will take them to the back of my truck in the parking garage. Love RTO
After the fun of seeing people again wears off, all you’ll have left is the ho-hum job, the pointless commute, and the dirty offices. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Conference calls - must be one of the dinosaurs. Everything is Skype or Teams meetings now. If you’re dialing in, you’re doing it wrong. And if you’ve got people talking over each other, your meeting host is bad and should be reprimanded.
Much faster network than at home - you must have poor internet service. Most of us notice no difference working remotely or in the office.
Got to meet new colleagues - completely unnecessary. There is no difference between virtual or in person in todays world.
Just got home from ba----g some thirsty banker mi-f, she had been pent up at home for 2 years and couldn’t wait to jump my bone. RTO is the greatest. On to the next office mi-f tomorrow.
Yes it's been great. I've been wandering about the buildings for 1-2 hours a day. Taking extra breaks in the coffee/cafe and TV areas too. Also can't discount the extra dump breaks to sit on the phone and post on here that account for about 1 hour a day. Plus the 30-60-90 minutes lunches and other misc breaks. Lovin' it.
