“Charlie is just doing what he’s paid to do.” “Charlie is doing what the Board wants him to do.” “If it wasn’t him, it would be someone else, amIright?”
What’s wrong with those rationalizations? What’s wrong with Charlie “taking the job”? Lack of virtues, ethics and unselfishness perhaps? Setting a poor example for the integrity of the bank?
Sounds like the Golden Rule is dead with some, unfortunately.
If Charlie were hired to withhold critical health and safety information for a new dr-g in order to improve corporate profits, does that make it all okay? How about hiring him to hide/dump toxic waste in your local water supply? Improve sales for addictive substances? If he were hired to fire everyone that is not Caucasian? Fire all the women? Lay off workers and spend the money on artificially inflating the stock price to mislead shareholders, rather than actually improving the health of the organization?
At some point, we need someone who has the integrity to say no to a high-paying job that requires stepping on other people to get ahead, and betraying his own country by offshoring, I have zero respect for Charlie and anyone who supports him.
