Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Bored with the weak excuses for Charlie and the BOD.

“Charlie is just doing what he’s paid to do.” “Charlie is doing what the Board wants him to do.” “If it wasn’t him, it would be someone else, amIright?”

What’s wrong with those rationalizations? What’s wrong with Charlie “taking the job”? Lack of virtues, ethics and unselfishness perhaps? Setting a poor example for the integrity of the bank?
Sounds like the Golden Rule is dead with some, unfortunately.

If Charlie were hired to withhold critical health and safety information for a new dr-g in order to improve corporate profits, does that make it all okay? How about hiring him to hide/dump toxic waste in your local water supply? Improve sales for addictive substances? If he were hired to fire everyone that is not Caucasian? Fire all the women? Lay off workers and spend the money on artificially inflating the stock price to mislead shareholders, rather than actually improving the health of the organization?

At some point, we need someone who has the integrity to say no to a high-paying job that requires stepping on other people to get ahead, and betraying his own country by offshoring, I have zero respect for Charlie and anyone who supports him.

Well, his nickname is "Chainsaw Charlie". Can't get but so mad at him for doing what he was hired to do. Like he said WF is too "top heavy" and we have way more employees than our competitors. He's publicly said 1,400 branches will close, telecommuting will be all but gone (as he believes you can only be "diverse and inclusive" in-person), and that those not living in a hub location will ultimately get laid off if they don't relocate (at their expense). Anyone working for WF that isn't aware of this should be and make their plans accordingly. I've worked for the firm for over 20 years and am taking the reigns of my own destiny, applying like mad outside WF rather than waiting for what would be a nice severance. I love my job but I'm not ignorant to the fact I'll get laid off at some point in the next year. No reason to complain about it but rather be thankful for the time I've had with the firm and recognize it's time to move on.

@1scg. I didn’t know McDonalds, Wendy’s, Burger King, and Walmart had recruiters, but I’m sure they are eager to hire.

@1jvu I look forward to my year of WF-sponsored vacation/job hunt/dual income.

I'm getting hit up by recruiters left and right, the timing couldn't be better.

Calling all Charlie-supporters. Good news! Laying off is alive and kicking. Yes-men, henchmen and sheep are all getting kicked to the curb faster than they can suck up to management.

If you don’t like my posts, no one is making you read them. Or you could start your own “I love CEOs who lay off 25% of their employees and spend the savings on themselves and their friends” forum.

How few brain cells does someone have to want to support the guy who can’t wait to get rid of you?

I’ll bet the Charlie-supporters are still in love with the husband/wife who repeatedly cheat on them. How do I know you’ve been cheated on? Because you have low standards, poor judgement, and you think you are smarter than you really are. You are exactly who cheaters are looking for. No matter how they treat you, you are willing to keep putting up with it. You get mad at your friends and family who tell you you’re being cheated on. “They are all wrong and just trying to cause trouble!” You have faith in the person who benefits from stepping all over you and get mad at the people who have nothing to gain by telling you the truth.

It’s easier for you to live in denial than to open your eyes. You are the ones who are going to be the most shocked when security escorts you out with a box of your belongings.

OP nailed it but it is an American corporate problem rather than just a WF problem. Chuckles is just a product of the new MBA school that teaches offshoring is good, workers don’t matter and get yours while you can and get out.

Too much me and not we in America. The greatest generation probably would be appalled at what has happened to the country they fought and died for.

@OP - so if I don’t whine about Charlie 24/7 then I am Charlie supporter and you don’t respect me? Let it be then. No loss at all. I rather use my time and energy to get a different job than let Charlie control my happiness and my career. I have my limits. You must somehow enjoy being a victim and expect others to make you happy

It's funny, people are only outraged about diversity under specific conditions. For example, if the entire BOD was African American, how many here would be outraged that they didn't hire a bunch of white guys instead so that board would be "representative of the population" or "diverse". I'm guessing no one. Racism is alive and well in this country, it's practitioners are just delusional about how much they project when they talk about this issue. If you ever look at a group of people, any group of people, and think "there's not enough (whatever) in here", you are a bigot, and it doesn't matter what demographics 'whatever' is. It's always immoral, destructive, dehumanizing, and divisive, with no exceptions. Some day MLK Jr.'s Dream will be realized, but it clearly hasn't been yet.

Oooh someone learned a new word: hyperbole.

In reality, there is nothing wrong with using hyperbole.

Hyperbole can help a writer to get their point across so that readers understand the seriousness of the situation. I don’t blame anyone for using hyperbole when addressing the direness of the past and current leadership at Wells Fargo.

I have a theory which is that the “supposed” Charlie supporters are victims of the current corporate environment too. They are equally disgruntled, and acting out in the only way they know how, desperate for any kind of attention they can get. I have empathy for ALL current WFC employees.

@zvf+1bmzLJo0 - Your “facts” are not facts at all… and your intelligence is questionable at best! And did you read this statement before posting it?!? No, just no!

“Meaning that seeing 1 black person and 9 whites at any event, meeting, company, etc is actually perfectly representative of the country.”

You could have ignored the comments on race, but you ended up contributing. Actually Bl---s make up just over 13%, Latinos make up almost 19%, and Asians make up nearly 6%. Together, that's over 1/3 of the population, but you don't see that reflected in the BOD. And somehow they keep preaching DE&I.

PS: I'm white.

How does race become a subject on a board about layoffs? No wonder you're here because if you were good at numbers you wouldn't be worried about losing your job. Do the math: US Population ~330 million. Black population ~33 million or 1/10th. Meaning that seeing 1 black person and 9 whites at any event, meeting, company, etc is actually perfectly representative of the country. Use facts and intelligence if you're going to reply with a disagreement not numbers or "facts" you pull out of you know where. For what it's worth, I'm not white I'm Asian but I get tired of baseless illogical claims.

The overall conclusion from reading so many of these comments on this board are:

1) This company has a lot of disgruntled people dissatisfied with its leadership. That is a LEADERSHIP and TRUST problem and failure right there.
2) To the poster who said "bring Stumpf back." Are you aware he was BANNED from ever working at a bank again, by the OCC? Fact. That was part of the settlement - paid $17 million and signed a C&D agreeing to never work at a bank again. That is cited in a 150+ page document on occ.gov for anyone to read. You could easily find it on Google, too.
3) So, what does 1 and particularly 2 above tell you about the quality of leadership people have already had here, prior to current CEO?! A lot! It tells me that people of this company have not had the kind of thoughtful, caring, transparent leadership they've needed here for years. And it also tells most that we haven't had a real good track record either - that is the Board's problem since they pick the CEOs.
3) So given the history and current state of morale and overall sentiments, can anyone really blame the people for feeling the way they do? Absolutely not! All of the posts on this board tell me that people are STARVED for effective leadership, transparent communication, and just good old fashioned respect.

Could the board of directors BE more white? I mean, there are three women, but the rest are old white men (except for maybe one).

The senior leadership is slightly more diverse.
