Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Mandatory Vaccination Status

Somewhat bothered by the fact that it is now mandatory to respond and record everyone’s vaccination status.

I already had COVID but that’s not an option , it’s either vaccinated , partially vaccinated or prefer not to disclose. Why are they ignoring the science that shows it’s almost impossible to get Covid twice ? Is natural immunity not better than an experimental vaccine ?

I feel like I can’t win with any of the options.

It’s not virtually impossible to get covid twice. Very real possibility. That’s why it’s not an option. It isn’t like chicken pox once & immune.

The better question is are you ok with your employer/corporations having health related information about you at their disposal? This is a data privacy issue regardless of your feelings on the vaccine. Nothing is really confidential. There are other communicable diseases such as aids, hepatitis, flu, STDs, measles and so on, should we ask everyone to disclose those as well? If everyone responded as prefer not to disclose, that would send a pretty strong message.

@mgx your worldview is akin to that of a toddlers

I am specifically referring to the concept of object permanence, you may need to look that up but it explains why you don’t understand that loss suffered by others is not lessened simply because you do not see it.

A lack of object permanence is also a symptom of BPD, other symptoms of which include hostility and anti-social behavior.

I had a dedicated cube at the office. That is going away. We were told to clean them out. Do you think SVB shares an office. Now we rely on underpaid wage worker to "clean" shared keyboards, headsets for hundreds of employees? Fu----g gross. Sounds lovely after an hour plus commute every morning. Time to move on.

The point of the question is to determine the scope of the risk for WF employees returning to work. #1 has no impact on that unless we're going to operate under the idea that we can't work unless literally every person in the world is safe. The company has many older workers, and they seem to be doing just fine. I know a ton of them and haven't even heard of a "friend of a friend" in that group passing (thankfully!). #2 if masks work, then why require vaccines at all? #3: sure, but tens of thousands HAVE worked together, this entire time. Surely without vaccination we should see all kinds of casualties in that group, right? Especially considering that mask wearing has not exactly been as strict as perhaps it should have been in some offices. Thankfully we have not, which suggests the risk to working age adults is quite low in spite of all the hysteria and fear mongering that is going on in our society right now.

Do you think the fact that we didn’t all have co-workers die has anything to do with:

  1. The elderly (read, retired) were the majority of deaths
  2. There were mask mandates nearly everywhere
  3. Over half the company hasn’t been working in close proximity to each other in nearly 18 months

Nice framing of a loaded question, have fun wearing a mask, socially distancing, going into the office, and STILL having to disclose medical information to WF (Covid test results) multiple times a week.

I have a peer who is a long-hauler, and struggles with faces/names and just normal work stuff they’ve worked with for years. It’s tough to witness.
I have another long-hauler coworker who still can’t taste or smell, and it’s insane how much that impacts their overall life and this work.

The “gotcha” tone of your question comes off as combative versus genuinely wanting an answer, which tends to turn people off from responding - but I will.
My team is small, and has been remote even before COVID-19. All of us know family and/or friends who’ve been infected, all of us have lost someone dear to us.
I only know 1 employee who has died but the people I work with change based on projects, so I don’t have long term relationships with any employees outside of my team (some interactions are over with one phone call).
2 people on my team contracted C-19, despite isolating.
All of us are fully vaccinated now, and grateful we’ve all survived, and our spouses and children have as well.

You seem to be missing the point. Answer the question, how many in your team have passed due to COVID? The most dangerous disease ever to afflict human kind. The reason we must all get injections and are supposed to fear each other's mere presence. Certain doom if we don't get shots. Well, we already didn't get shots for nearly a year, because they didn't exist. I'm trying to quantity this alleged doom that will befall us, here at WF, without vaccination. Because people are talking about it like it's the riskiest thing ever. Ok, after a year how many out of the quarter million WF people have died from COVID? It's an entirely legitimate question. Why would you deflect? Your response suggests the answer is zero.

For all of you that are losing your minds over this, think of it this way...

How are these states and local communities determining who wins the COVID jab lottery money, or what ever incentive they are trying to bribe people with? You don't have to enter it. THEY ALREADY KNOW...

Now let's stop fu----g around with this, and live our lives the way we want.

Indiana federal judge just ruled that Indiana University's requirement for vaccinations is legal and can be enforced. It will get appealed, of course, but the weight of cases is moving in one direction. Smaller firms are popping up with statements in their job recruitment listing saying that they will only hire fully vaccinated candidates.

Everyone who's in a twist about disclosing status - think ahead to when you are required to get vaccinated and plan accordingly.

To those who say “don’t disclose your vax status”, or “I’m free to choose whether I get vaxxed or not”: I get it to an extent. I have rebelled against all forms of control, or attempts to take my freedom of choice away, my whole life. But my rebellion only resulted in negative consequences to myself, not others. I relate it to drinking and driving. I can routinely get drunk at home, or do dr-gs etc and if I stay home -the only negative consequences are to myself. But if I think it is “my right” to get drunk and go drive my car and maybe hit a kid on a tricycle, no that is not my right.

At some point- you have to be thoughtful of others, your community, in order that we can all continue to live good lives. We’re not talking about burning bras here, we’re talking about a public health crisis. If everyone just thinks of themselves, we will self-destruct.

Whatever your situation is, you should answer "prefer not to disclose". It's not in our best interest as employees to give them that data.

I find it ridiculous that in their FAQ they say we don't have the right to ask other employees' their vaccination status. What gives you the right, and not us?

Serious question, if the virus is such a lethal threat without vaccines, how many of you lost coworkers to COVID prior to the vaccines being produced? We went almost a year without any vaccine at all. My business group is large and had plenty of infections, but not a single serious case or fatality. WF has had tens of thousands working in-office during that time frame. In your group how many were lost? I'm not making light of it, it's serious as a heart attack, I'm just asking: has anyone in your group passed from COVID?

  • and if your cube mate cares, he has the option to get vaccinated, and thereby protect himself. If not, he is open to the minuscule risk of a serious complication from covid which is also his choice. This is not rocket science, let people make their own decisions about their health, stop overstepping privacy boundaries and move on.

cube mate safety argument - actually, vaccinated people have been shown in studies and SCIENCE to virtually eliminate transmission. Uh, that’s why all these companies have been making it a point to.

Now, is it 100%? No, but it is a heck of a lot higher than if you’ve not been vaccinated or had covid.

The goal posts keep moving. Is it financial risk to the company or healthy safety risk to coworkers that's the 'risk'. The former has serious issues with consistency, the latter has countless simple resolutions. If the company chooses not to take advantage of any of those, the message is pretty clear, they don't actually see it as a threat.

From a result standpoint, it makes no difference, if you’ve not had the vaccine, you get to wear a mask/muzzle/face shield. Simple as that. The company has made a choice, whether you agree with it or not. So far, the law is behind them on this one.

People who have had the vaccine, have a very significant chance of not getting covid. People who have had covid, typically have a lower chance to getting it again, however, they have an even lower statistical chance once they have the vaccine.

To those who split hairs on whether it is a vaccine or gene therapy, or whether it is “approved” vs “approved for emergency use”. Still doesn’t change these facts and you’re making irrelevant references.

You can even chose not to take this survey, certification, attestation, or whatever. They’ll just treat you as if you did not get the vaccine and put a mask on you when you come into the office. And yes, they CAN make this grounds for termination - without severance. Heck, technically, they could claw back if they really want to get nasty.

The bank already offers financial incentives toward weight loss coaching and getting health screenings where presumably your doctor will tell you to improve your diet. The bank also offers condition management programs .

The main difference is that your obesity cannot infect your cube mate.

You are all looking in the wrong direction.

CDC doesn’t maintain individual immunization records, most states don’t either, they mostly will refer you to your own records. However, your health insurance administrator knows, unless you went and got vaccinated claiming to be uninsured.

It costs $2 million to be hospitalized for a month with COVID . Vaccinations prevent serious illness even on breakthrough infections. The bank does not want to pay for you to be hospitalized, and WF is self-insured. ACA allows for smokers to be charged 50% more than non-smokers, if you think they cannot do the same for this, you’re kidding yourself. They are trying to assess risk, people who refuse vaccination are a health risk to others and a serious financial risk to the bank, you feelings about freedom and privacy are not relevant, deal with it.
