I encourage you to be a leader of your own life, not follow the path that Wells Fargo is attempting to sell us on. You know the sales pitch: If you care about Wells Fargo, you will accept the facts as we present them. 25% of you must go, so that 75% of you might (wink, wink) survive. It’s ok - it’s business. Sorry that up you might have to go, but we do need to try to get that stock price back up.
No thank you. Somehow, they have bamboozled some followers into passing out the Kool-aid. These are the same people who would recruit you into a cult or a pyramid scheme. They are Followers, without an independent thought of their own. Their skill set is following whoever the Leaders of the Day are. As long as everything turns out for them, they are perfectly fine with anything negative that happens to you. I understand their psychology, but I don’t want any part of it. I don’t want my success to be built on others failing. I haven’t had to go that low yet, and I’m doing just fine.
And no - the employees who don’t buy into the corporate propaganda are not “deadweight” as the Followers attempt to pitch out. Not true. In fact, it’s often the other way around. Those who are smart and skilled and experienced are not easily persuaded into buying into whatever the current sales pitch is. We maintain high standards and moral principles and have empathy towards our teammates, no matter who is in charge. Personally, I don’t have much respect for those who fall at the feet of a leader who is getting paid in the tens of millions of dollars for cutting off 25% of his employees at their knees. Who raised these people? Who wants to follow a bunch of Followers?
It’s much easier to be a Follower. You automatically are accepted by all the other followers, you are told what your purpose is. It requires less intellectual work. You don’t have to question as much, you just accept and say “yes”. Yes-men.
I choose not to be a follower, and I encourage all Wells Fargo employees to seek something better for yourselves. Don’t die on the Wells Fargo vine. Forge your open path, listen to your gut, and get off the horse-drawn Stagecoach and get on to a 21st century forward-moving company while the choice is still yours, not theirs. Go to work for a company that is already thriving and who views you as an asset rather than a cost that must be eradicated.
