Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Strong...

"Strong people don't put others down, they lift them up "
~Michael P. Watson

That seems to be the theme around Wells right now. Managers that used to have confidence and great teams are now just running scared and ensuring their teams look bad but they look good - i.e., inconsistently meets expectations, does not meet expectations – year-end ratings that are sooo prevalent now. Odd how entire teams, almost, can be rated as those ... I was always under the impression that management was responsible for their teams success or failure. Leadership is lacking. No one has personal accountability any longer and it's acceptable.
Any manager that takes a meets or exceeds team member and for their year-end review designates them as an inconsistently meets, does not meet or any other non-performing standard should be dealt with accordingly!

No one wants to hear facts about Charlie or WF as a whole. They only want to commiserate, complain and immerse themselves in self-pity about how they are being so wronged, how management is terrible and how Charlie/WF are scum bags. Get over yourselves. I have had very good to excellent reviews in my few years to include my latest this month to wrap up 2020. Do I think this gravy train is about to come to an end? Absolutely. If you blame others for your bad attitude you are the joke. Too weak to self-identify as needing a new position in life. I work the way I work for me and no one else. If that gets me a better raise, better bonus or better position then so be it. If it doesn’t and I feel it should then I’ll move on at that time. But I sure as shyte won’t be blaming random coworkers on me not getting what I feel I deserve. I can’t wait to see all of those with bad attitudes to be laid off, let go, retired, discharged with cause or simply burnt out to the point where they hide in a cube and punch a clock so it’ll make me easier to step on their faces and work with those who have a modicum of professionalism left. If I’m in the group that goes out the door unwillingly then c’est la vie. But i won’t let it burn me up.

People, lay off Charlie. Charlie is not the problem. Charlie was hired to fix the problems. After decades of corruption we are on track and potentially rising again. Is it painful? Yes. Does it offer a chance to save Wells from being sold piecemeal as a parts bank? Yes.

If you’ve ever had to clean up a giant mess that you had nothing to do with, then imagine Charlie’s situation. It’s hard, dirty work and he earns every penney.

Serious question OP, exactly how many manager's teams have you seen ratings for? Post sounds like a lot of assumptions.

That quote is so true, OP. I learn everything I need to know about people who put down others in order to seemingly make themselves look better. Unfortunately for them, something in their past has caused low self-esteem which is what leads to such behavior. I understand them, but let them know immediately that I will not tolerate or support their actions.

I think leaders like Charlie use people’s weaknesses to accomplish their goals. If I were Charlie, I would take notice of the yes-men scrambling to please me in order to save themselves. I would use them, then I would get rid of them. Ultimately, I would only have respect for those who had the confidence and moral strength to stand up for their teams.

Charlie has turned this place in to an “every man for himself” organization.

The weak will support and praise Charlie, hoping to divert attention away from their own personal mediocre performance.

The strong will speak out and stand up to do what is right for their team and for our clients.

I disagree with the poster below. I was told directly that managers are being forced to downgrade people by people two levels up, and any petty or minor reason will do, and it can be totally unrelated to your performance objectives and accomplishments. Forced ranking systems are already known to be counterproductive and turn into a brown nosing contest instead of objective measures based on fact. The friends of the people forcing the ranking will be protected regardless of their actual skill and performance.

I have long said it was a shell game, and I believe the intent was to justify bonuses being slashed. Frankly, I think it would be better if executive management had the courage to come out and just say that they made across the board cuts. Instead they forced tons of managers to twist themselves into knots trying to come up with reasons to criticize people.

I think wells is finally on the right track.

This new system has forced the managers to finally give actual ratings based on performance. I worked on a team where the manager used to be so scared of conflict everyone on the team would get a 4 or a 5 just to keep everyone happy.

Those of us who worked hard would get the same ratings as the slackers. In the end there was no incentive to work hard cos a good ranking was guaranteed.

Those days are gone now. As others have said on here the participation trophies have finally been taken away

That’s just my opinion. I realize a lot of people won’t like it but I hope we can all respect each other’s opinions
