Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Anyone feel like they are working a thankless job?

I know this has nothing to do with lay offs at the firm, but felt it’s the only outlet for my stress level at the moment... so thank you for letting set this platform.

Been with the firm for over decade. Started as a bright eye bush tailed go- getter for the first 1/2 of my career here and wore my “WF team member badge” proudly. Telling everyone that I work for WF Corporate and remembered the respectful and sometimes envies looks on their faces.
Fast forward to 2020, morale is at its lowest I’ve ever seen at the firm. I’m now embarrassed to even mentioned I work for WF, and the look of pity some people now give me once they do find out.

I work close to 50+ hours weekly for the past 9 months to meet unattainable deadlines. I feel like I’m use as a scapegoat if deliverables aren’t met. It’s a thankless job with five different (sometimes more) different business units to catered to with no more than two groups ever on the same page at one time and that is if I’m lucky that week.Satisfied one group, you p-ss-d off four others with them yelling at you on why they disagreed with you at the last min. before project deadlines and uses “candor” as an excuse to reject your deliverables because it did’t met their goals for their leadership team to jock for future positions for themselves and their buddies. use as the scapegoat on why things are not getting done vs being honest and have decency to admit, processes are broken... I can go on and on..
This job-lead me to major anxiety attacks and insomnia due to the stress level and have left me so sad at the end of every work day where I have to step away to cry in my garage so my family can’t see or hear me since we are all working from home until further notice.

Please consider taking time off to get healthy. Wells pays for short-term disability that pays a percentage of your salary up to 100% based on tenure. And FMLA will secure your job for 12 weeks. You can step away with a doctor's order. You can do this without asking for manager approval. Call HR to get the ball rolling. The insurance company can inform your manager you are on medical leave.

You are not alone and will encourage what others have said - take care of yourself and your family - the machine of WF isn’t worth your soul :)

Nope, enjoy my job and my team. My managers up to three levels above me all give praise and appreciate their employees. Sorry for others’ experience

Severance costs are not in addition to current expenses, it’s not a hit. The expenses will just fall off and reduce the baseline. Expenses have nothing to do with profit. Net revenue will improve as expenses go down, but expenses don’t go up because of severance.

I was not "looking for a job" when I found this one, I had a career and I liked it.

Ten years at Wells and if feels like a job now.

This should be a great place to work.

Chainsaw isn't trying to avoid a few million in severance.

Think about the math. Let's say the average layoff will be someone who earns $50k a year and the average severance length will be 3 months. At 60,000 people that's $1.5 Billion in severance.

Even if they sprinkle that over 3 years that's a $500 Million hit to their annual profits.

Of course they want to motivate people to leave on their own.

The other day my coworker and I were talking about how we’d almost rather get COVID than have to work right now. That’s how bad it is, and it’s only going to get worse because this multimillion dollar corporation doesn’t have the balls to spend a few million dollars to lay people off with dignity. Chuckles would rather everyone have anxiety attacks every day than spare a cent of his $30 mil salary. Absolutely disgusting.

Yep, all the time. Too many high priority efforts, last minute asks and add the stresses from the pandemic and it’s easy to feel exhausted and under appreciated. Oh and add lay-off fears. It’d be nice if they’d just come out and say what to expect.

Everyone’s tense about the layoffs so don’t take the belittling too personally. The managers that are yelling at you because they’re also getting yelled at . The other factor is this company is trying to force attrition and it’s disgusting. They’ve crunched the numbers and realized how many people they need to lay-off and that number is so huge it would tank the stock price so they refuse to backfill positions and just pile up work.
There’s no reason no matter the role you should be catering to five business lines but on the other hand that shows that they need you. So my best advice would be treat the job like a toxic relationship by setting up boundaries. Work your standard 40 and if you can’t do anymore or start to feel stressed close the laptop. they only ask you to do so much because they know you’ll say yes. Managers here are in CYA mode so if they see they have a cash cow who will overwork themselves they’ll ride you until insanity.
Everything here and in corporate America is a thankless job. That’s how it is when the economy is bad and they think you’re trapped so don’t overwork yourself in hopes that maybe they’ll take it easy on you because that’s not gonna happen.

This is a job, nothing more. Moral is at an all time low, remember this, you were looking for a job when you found this one. Charlie and his JPMC cronies are the only ones getting rich around here and the only plan to fix is mass layoffs. When he decides he’s had enough he will take his golden parachute and leave.

When I have a situation where multiple different groups have approvals, nothing moving moves until all approvals are in writing. Almost every task here has too many approvals and way too many watchers.

I spend zero time worrying about work not getting done when people are still arguing about the approval, it’s on them. I warn the parties that there are no agreements and dates slip until agreements are made. If someone has a comment about something for which their approval is not needed, I tell them to go talk to the approvers.

With staff reductions, this might improve the number of turf wars, but the company has a long way to go to be more efficient with the daily nonsense.

I've felt this way at every job and company I have had. It's called corporate America and they don't give a sh–. It will be that way somewhere else.

I agree with the others who said to stop working so hard. You'll never get caught up, you won't the credit you deserve, they'll use you up. You might consider going out on mental health leave if you feel this bad. Get back on your feet and come back a healthier person.

Life's a lot easier once you give up hope! Relax and like the others said, stop giving a phux, they don't care about us, stop caring about them, you'll sleep better at night, put your energy into your family, they deserve it, Wells Fargo does not.

Your question should be, does anyone at Wells Fargo NOT think they're doing a thankless job.... my own manager doesn't even bother mentioning when I get shared success cards, this is the most toxic and morally lacking and depressing place I've ever worked.

Just stop working so hard. Read the subtle art of not giving a f. It helped me. I use to care a bunch, I had really bad anxiety, didn’t sleep, when I did sleep I had nightmares - we are pieces in a machine. Remember only do what you can, don’t give more than what you need to. Prioritize yourself and your well being. You are not alone - this place is a circus.
