Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Location Strategy Update

In the spirit of being aligned with Wells Fargo's often-stated desire for transparency, here is the latest info on Saul's "Location Strategy".

All telecommuter agreements have been revoked. This has already happened.

If you are a telecommuter and your manager has not yet informed you of this decision, you will be informed shortly. You may have already received emails regarding "Physical Access Management" or "Smart Card Requests" that have been generated on your behalf, or you will be receiving such emails shortly (if you have received such an email and your manager has NOT yet talked to you about it, you're encouraged to ask them about it - and please post any further updates here!)

The expectation is that all employees who are currently working from home - including those who had prior telecommuter agreements - will be working at core locations in Q2, 2021.

Telecommuters are considered as "offices with one employee". I have no further information pertaining to offices having between 2 and 9 employees, other than what is already common knowledge: that they're on the chopping block. My guess is that telecommuters are simply the low-hanging fruit which will constitute the first wave of 2021 layoffs, followed later by actions against the small offices.

For the short term, local COVID-related laws will dictate activities related to "non-essential" employees, so for right now there's no effective change for most of us. However, the anticipation is that COVID concerns will soon diminish to the point of those restrictions being lifted, with the resulting expectation that employees will "return to work immediately".

I know nothing about any packages thay may or may not be offered to those who are impacted. If anyone knows, please share.

My manager told me the same thing. He said they are frowning on telecommuting. They are creating new badges for people, and I did get a couple of emails about that after we spoke.

He said that he didn't think we would actually have to return to the office anytime soon because of Covid. But when Covid goes away he said they want to get back to their location strategy as fast as possible.

Who knows. Nothing we can do about it.

@2oez
You don't know their plans and they're not obligated to tell everyone. It would be unacceptably ridiculous to force a relocation for anyone at any level in the middle of a pandemic. It's 2020 and ridiculous for most people to relocate anyway given that so many roles can be performed from anywhere.

if y'all noticed our new D&I chief introduced himself today - He lives in Washington DC. Not a Hub, no mention of him commuting to a Hub office.

I guess if you are a Charlie buddy or a friend of Saul, you can work anywhere you want.

Due to COVID, isn't nearly everyone under Saul (Technology) working from home right now? I was a telecommuter before Saul joined, then he did revoke previous telecommuter agreements (I had to fill out new TC forms after he joined). Then COVID hit and his master plan went to sh– and we've been home since. Q2 2021 still seems a little early. Until vaccines are widely distributed I don't see how Wells would risk getting thousands of people back into one building (where I used to go 3 days a week).

What is the OPs reason for wasting their time and ours on this?

Seriously, there are better places to troll where you can get way more people angry.

The OP has no ambition.

LOL - this post is so confused, incoherent and laughable that yes – I suppose might have actually come from some clueless and incompetent executive or Committee – but no, it's just too jumbled.

@sjx+17XYZZQc You may want to take a remedial reading course. The action to 'talk to your manager' is not precipitated by the post, but 'if you have received an email'. You must be a leader working in risk. That's the only explanation. Regulators say 'do A' and you do 'B'.

This won’t be only in technology. Certain roles will be full time work from home but most won’t.

I think the post would probably be plausible if they’d said Q3. More coherent than most similar attempts, no grossly misused internal terminology. 8/10, a solid troll attempt, I look forward to seeing more of your art.

Sounds like they're picking up where they left off before the pandemic hit. I know telecommuters who were told to either move to a hub or take a package but then everything was put on hold. Back to business as usual in 2021 apparently.

Absolute BS

I love this part:

“if you have received such an email and your manager has NOT yet talked to you about it, you're encouraged to ask them about it”

So you want people to go to their managers and say “an anonymous poster on the internet on a layoff forum said I need to talk to you. Also, the anonymous internet guy wants me to come back to the internet to give an update”

HA HA HA HA HA

This site gets funnier every day

There are a lot of people who telecommute due to disability so I tend to think BS because I don’t believe they want to face lawsuits.

Not to mention that young talent expect to telecommute as part of their deal now.

What about people at locations that are being shut down due to high expense (SF, etc) that are being told to work from home going forward on a perm basis?

Are these people exempt from being cut simply because they're telecommute? It seems weird that WF would go to the trouble of first telling them to WFH and then shortly after lay them off. Seems more efficient to simply lay them off right away.
