Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Today's Layoffs at Verizon

Today Verizon gave many employees, including myself their own October surprise and laid off a good number of employees. They wouldn't say how many or in what areas, but I find it extremely hypocritical that this was done on the same day, leadership is touting on LinkedIn the launch of "Not Done: Women Remaking America" and the fact that more women have been laid off over the last 6 months due to the Coronavirus, with catastrophic financial impact to them and their families.

How many women got the axe at Verizon today? Especially those over 55, whose prospects for landing another job are even worse?

assets acquired thru yahoo! purchase would account for the price tag. Just sunnyvale campus was sold for more than billion. VZ IT is shutting down their data centers to use yahoo’s. Cause it’s much cheaper. IT teams were resisting and playing endless political games.

BS ALERT BS ALERT! It's basically statistically impossible for a person to work at a company for 39 years and never miss a day. There are 252 working days (not including holidays) X 39 = 9828. What this poster is saying is they worked 9828 days without missing a single day because of illness. This is such BS!

Union Paid to Post union members just coming here and making sh– up everyday!

"I worked at Verizon 39 years. Never called off sick, worked whatever hours, holidays, weekends that were needed. My sup did not even show up to wish me well on my last day. What a thank you.

Former Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer on Wednesday announced the launch of Sunshine, a consumer apps start-up.
Sunshine is Mayer’s first venture and return to the spotlight since stepping down from her role as Yahoo chief executive after the 2017 completion of the company’s $4.48 billion sale to Verizon.
At launch, Mayer’s start-up is rolling out Sunshine Contacts, an address book app that will be free for iOS users who receive an invitation.

New Layoffs on 10/29/2020 in Verizon Connect Operations OEM

  • this layoff happened on Thursday in Operations in Enterprise and OEM Support (three people were let go and have until 12/31/2020 to get placed on another team or will get a severance in January of 2021) * reason stated by the senior manager was due to budget issues and less support needed as OEM for dealership support is being sunset

To the OP — I’m sorry this happened to you and wish you all the best.

Hasn’t the company been bragging about not laying anyone off during the pandemic?

The monthly pension at verizon really s—s.when it was new york it was like half your base pay over the years of the contract now if you have 30 years your monthly is lik$2,680 a month. Like 32k a year.ups has a better pension and you only have to do 25 year spectrum has a better pension ,fed ex has a better pension i could go on ...the union should have done a better job at keeping the pension to half base pay....cus not everybody can take out max for their 401k ..

Do we really need to communicate with each other with insults.
For the record, the only part of VzB that is union is a small subset of field and remote techincians total
ling less than 400 people. They are a different contract and because of time that they were forced to be union, they definitely will not be retiring with million dollar pensions. They are the ones that were screwed. They do not get all the bells and whistles of the Core contract, they did not get to vote to be part of a union, they are not part of any bargaining when contract negotiations are being held because they are a small percent. VzT's union sued the company to insist that those techs who were non union and part of a recently purchased company become union. It is stated in the union contract that ANY company Vzn buys that has similar work covered under labor agreements within the T footprint HAS to be unionized.

So let's stop the insults back and forth please.
Wouldn't you rather understand each other and the dynamics at play.

Back to the posters remarks. I'm curious as to which departments in B got laid off. I see a lot of consolidating on the horizon with all of the new technologies in play.

Yep, the business side got hit pretty hard. I did as well (23yrs), but not complaining. Wish it were a few more years later though :). Oh well i will either ask around internally or go take few months off and back to work.

I think some on the train could be early retirement capable, but from perusing the SPDs. I see very little benefit.
