Here's a thought on how to capture the dollars of viewers - charge them for what they watch.
I made a list of channels I watch and they sum up to ten in total. Give me a price for each and that I will pay. I don't watch ESPN or other expensive sports programs so why should I pay for them in your communally socialized pricing model. I could not care less about the 1 millionth rerun of Hot Tub Time Machine on HBO so why am I asked to pay for network?
I don't need 500 channels.
I don't want 500 channels.
Why should I have to pay for what I do not want or need?
Restaurants don't charge for food I did not order. My grocery store doesn't add on the price of fish when all I bought was chicken. I buy dog food at Costco I don't also get charged for paper towels. Why does our particular industry make me pay for products and services I do not use, do not want and will never have interest in owning?
Give me the option of ala carte viewing where I pay for what I use and nothing more. My Genie is Internet connected so I know viewing pattern data is being collected when every 15 minutes it pings the old DTV Phoenix server farm. Neilsen monitors my viewing habits. Alexa listens to my every word.
Surely you can easily determine what I watch and for how long so give me a pricing schedule that reflects my usage and that will be my monthly charge.
Radical yes. But offer this customized model to the public and you will rule the content delivery universe within a year.
