I remember the Iphone launch and I remember the power plant in a major POP being on the edge of overload before the launch of the Iphone. Lose 1 or 2 rectifiers and the plant is in battery discharge. (That means many things are going to stop working after a few hours.) The question was asked to "leadership" What part of the network do you want to pull the breaker on...

@dax+15bNzLvS The iPhone launch was prior to SBC coming in and driving the company into the ground. The Cingular team did a great job. There was a lot of revenue and profit. Once SBC came in they started pushing out and diluting the Cingular leadership.

The uVerse product was actually a great product that suffered from stagnation. A refresh a few years after launch along with some renegeotion of licensing of the set-top box software would have kept it a flagship. It was able to reach a lot of rural areas that locked in a bundle with Internet service. SBC leadership ran uVerse into the ground.

The T-Mobile merger was a disaster. The DTV purchase should have never happened. The Time Warner move should have never happened. AT&T lost its foundation and they tried to buy more customers by purchasing companies as their offerings were not compelling enough without buying the customers.

AT&T has not had a successful product launch in ~15 years... remember the launch of the iPhone...?? No meaningful network upgrades and it brought the network to its knees.... despite having a ~3 year exclusive, T was not able to gain market share... U-verse...?? Never profitable and a very messy installation process.... Digital home...?? Failed... all of these had one thing in common, AT&T didn’t want to be best, they wanted to deliver on the cheap, betting the “AT&T brand” would cover up their failure to plan and execute.... HBO max is the same.... a high profile debut like this at a premium price should have had best in market user experience... it doesn’t... the AT&T brand now stands for over promising, under delivering at a premium price... sad, this coming from a 27 year AT&T retired employee (first 25 was great, the last 2 I would think, what the heck are we doing....?).
