Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why would any of the $5.5B be for severances?

People seem convinced that a part of the latest loan will go toward severances, but I can't see how that could be the case. At this moment, all the companies have been given a perfect opportunity to get rid of as many people as they want without providing them with severance. Just check some of the other forums here, some are already taking advantage of that to lay people off with no severance instead of furloughing them.

So why would AT&T bother with severance? I highly doubt that the clowns on top have suddenly grown a conscience...

More likely, a small portion will be used to offset the increase in unemployment insurance premiums due to layoffs already in the works and the layoffs of Warnermedia production people who can't get close enough to produce new content, with the rest used to buy back stocks to shore up the price, and to ensure that the sacred dividend remains a shibboleth of corporate good health, so Randy can borrow more of that cheap money to redecorate his office without worrying that this will show to investors.

All big companies borrow money for cash to run the business. Now with lower interest rates is a good time for that. Even using new funds to retire more costly debt. It's just the way big business operates.

The money is to pay for people to cook the books. Cooking the books is expensive.

There are severance policies in place. They will need to rescind/ revise the policies if they plan on not paying severance in accordance with the policies. They CAN of course do this, but they have not done so.

agree with first poster ratty and stank only care about their take and want to keep things running according to their normal.

why would they use for severance when they can use the virus to get rid of people.

the only care about themselves and they have shown that time and time again.

I believe the $5.5B is needed to pay the dividend so that Ratty (and Stinky) can get their $1M quarterly check from dividends.

Ratty and Stinky only care about themselves, not the other shareholders and certainly not the employees (that are left).

END OF STORY.
